WE ALL NEED REST to be at our best - don’t you agree?! It’s not easy though is it, especially when you’re an independent shop, artist, maker or small business? Things need to be done, or are in your mind 24/7 - right? Plus the bills still need paying and enquiries, orders, emails etc mount up. Yet we all need to switch off, to calm down and make time for (guilt free!) rest - don’t we? Summer can be such a challenging (and worrying - tbh) time for independents so please, if you can, make an extra effort to support them. Remember our message - all sales (just a card, just a book, just a gift etc) add up. Our campaign has taken some time off, and we’re planning to take some more too. At the moment our team have significant personal commitments (house moves, bereavement, health issues, childcare ) which need attention, plus some are on hols (Michael who posts orders is away until end of July - so please order if you’d like, but note that they won’t be posted for a few weeks). We’ll be back soon as we’ve BIG PLANS! There’s lots to do on the campaign behind the scenes so, even if we’re slightly less visible here, (even with a somewhat depleted team) we’ll still be working hard on your behalf. We have a few posts planned, and LOTS of exciting things coming up, but we will just be slower rather than stopped. How do you make time to rest and recharge? It’s so important, yet very hard to do without considerable planning. THE AIM OF JUST A CARD is to remind people how vital & valuable every sale is to an artist, maker, independent shop and small business. We want to see them flourish because they are AMAZING. We encourage people to visit (and buy from!) wonderful independent shops, from artists & makers showing at design fairs, open houses or exhibitions and also those who sell online via Etsy or @folksyhq for example, or personal sites. It’s not easy running your own business, and it’s certainly not easy running this campaign. In fact, like most things, it’s often FAR harder than it looks and, sadly, we’re hearing of a few of you who are having it tough atm. We know how you feel - we’ve come incredibly close to stopping JUST A CARD on a few occasions. Yet somehow, by sheer grit and bags of determination, because we believe SO firmly that together we can make a difference, we manage to not give up. So today - if you’re questioning yourself, wondering if you can keep going, remember this - we’re all in this together. You’re doing an amazing job, lots of people in this community have your backs and wish you well. Nothing is every as rosy as it seems, but it is SO worth it. Don’t you agree?! • • . TIME FOR A BREAK! Sarah here @sarahhamiltonprints The past few months, working on the posters and JUST A CARD day etc (around my own work/Open Studio), have been pretty exhausting for me and for the team.
