A boy who had a name and not a title." . ❔ Have you ever read a book or series because of a certain character ? . ~ The Darkling was the reason I started reading Grisha Trilogy. Everyone was raving about this character and I got super curious. Well I wasn’t disappointed, he deserves all the love. He is the only Villain I Love, I have never been into villains but The Darkling changed that for me. He is super charismatic and powerful, I couldn’t resist the charm and instantly fell in love with him Just imagine... the Russian Accent... Mysterious personality... Handsome Face... pretty gray eyes...sly smile...Scary dark Powers... and his famous Black Kefta What’s not to love and drooled over who wouldn’t love him ? no matter how evil he is come on, he was not born evil, he was made into one, and of course I don't approve of his horrible methods. I know that people have different opinions about The Darkling but I know enough psychology to forgive him, considering he was oppressed and had a long life rich in grief. His last words in Ruin and Rising: 'Don't let me be alone' made me collapse into flood of tears. Anyways, since I read the short backstory of the Darkling “The Demon in the Wood” I was hoping that Bardugo would write his prequel series (of course the Darkling was the true essence of this trilogy and deserves to be acknowledged). And I really wish I'd see more of his life history, not just who he was before and after he became the Black Heretic. I wanted to know more about the man named Aleksander Morozova, when there were still visible traces of him, and whether he ever fell in love with someone for real ? I hope I'm not jinxing myself. Originally, I had intended to use this picture for my review, but at my current rate, I'll be writing that review by late summer, so here we are. Instead I'll use it for a reading update, since I haven't done those in a while. See: struggle with finding time to read. When I read Allende’s The House of the Spirits years ago, I had a bit of an issue with her writing, particularly her use of commas. I know, such a tiny hair to split. In Daughter of Fortune I have noticed that but what's bothered me even more is something called ‘queismo’ in Spanish. I don't know how to explain it in English, since I don't think there's an equivalent, but let's just say I'm a bit of a grammar freak and it irks me to see so many ‘de’ missing. I'm sure translated works solved that problem without much of a fuss, though. As for the story itself, even though I'm liking it, it doesn't come close to The House of Spirits. The period of time in general and this point of view in particular (the flood of immigrants in California due to the Gold Rush in the late 1840s, as seen from the perspective of a Chilean girl on the run) is one I hadn't read before. Eliza’s adventure may have its roots in her idolized romantic interest, but there's much more to her story than her chasing after her lover, and I'm enjoying seeing her finding her own path. Do you get hung up in ‘minor’ grammar details like commas, ellipses, etc. or you don't even notice them as long as the story is engaging? .
