Cupcake Sensory Bin [and my top 5 Birthday-themed activities] My big boy turns 5 on Wednesday I have a fun adventure planned for us, but I’m also going to put together a few birthday themed crafts and activities. I love this rainbow rice birthday cupcake sensory bin (I dyed rice by coloring it with white vinegar and food colors and it was so worth it, though you could do this with plain rice as well). We set out this themed sensory bin for the kids at my niece’s birthday party, and they were totally drawn to it! They said that it looked like sprinkles - which is what I was going for, so, yay! Oil Pastel Resist Birthday Message I told Mr L that I had a secret message for him and that he had to paint it to find out. Since he LOVES surprises (ok, which kid doesn't?!), he was really excited for this one. I used white oil pastel to write on a piece of recycled paper. Then dished out the watercolours from @daiso_singapore, and told him to go all out with the painting. It turned out ok, but with small hands I might provide a bigger brush next time. Also, if you're anything like me, you would be cringing at the messy mixed up watercolour palette now. . We tried to sound out the English words together and I'm hoping he gets to remember and recognise some of the Chinese ones, especially his name, 乐. Source of inspiration: @chalkacademy, who did an even more fabulous job using white wax candles instead! I only have black ones that I reuse for EVERY birthday.

Part 3 of my daughter's fairy birthday party. Today I will be featuring two fun activities which can be incorporated into a fairy themed party. Pic 1: the eyes of the girls were as big as saucers when I told them I'm going to reveal the secret of making fairy dust. Basically I gave them each a recipe. I bought decoration sand and glitter from the dollar store and labelled each item with a positive characteristic. For example, blue glitter will be honesty, red will be humility etc (you get the idea). And you can make up the recipe eg. 1 spoonful of honesty and 2 spoonfuls of humility etc. The girls were having so much fun with this one. Tips for mums: please note this activity can get rather messy. Pic 2: making fairy gardens. The girls spent quite a long time making their own fairy gardens. For the base I used carton boxes, cut them according to size and painted them. After that I provided the girls with soil, flowers, stones, small bird houses etc. to decorate their own fairy houses.
