The neck is the main focus of this weeks advanced class on Yoga Selection. These animated images are a companion to the class. They break down some of the specific ways in which props are used in the video. They also clarify methods for getting into position and creating alignment that will maximise benefits. Some of poses in this video help to open your shoulders and improve upper back mobility. Tightness and soreness in these areas can often negatively impact your neck, or even lead towards tension related headaches. Other poses will help you to support your neck in positions where it might otherwise be vulnerable to collapse and compression. This will be particularly beneficial if you are practicing with a stiff or sore neck. Supported poses that help your neck to release and relax are also included in the class. I'm slowly working on toning the abdominal and lumbar regions. Here's asanas I've been working on. Some of you have seen this in class and in the heat last week, this is what we abandoned . However I'm still working on this "throwing the hips" that Raya showed in Pune in Feb 2018, and feel it's helping with not overworking the legs and lower back in the inversions. But you've got to be super strong in the arms, shoulders and neck. You'll see in my notes I say "try not to come into handstand" as it's not my point to be in the final pose. The point is to understand where you're working from to get there.
