Attended the inaugural #womenstrailfestival by @collectivelyoutside this past weekend. The event brought together women who enjoy trail life in many forms (runners, hikers, bikers), entrepreneurs that support the outdoor industry, and Forest Service personnel who maintain the outdoor spaces we enjoy. . Outdoor events took place at the Warwoman Dell Recreation Center and Black Rock Mountain State Park. There were aid stations along the Bartram Trail to Pinnacle Knob route with volunteer search and rescue personnel accompanying EACH run/hike group. Impressive!. . The workshops were suitable for all, and the diverse panelists shared the origins of their groups and the challenges of an industry that is mostly white and male-dominated. Mirna Valerio moderated and shared her personal "outdoor" story. ALL proceeds will benefit #girlsontherun. Event partners and event sponsors were on point with swag and raffle prizes!. . An unexpected highlight was an older (80s) gentleman who paid for my and Eboni Dubose's lunch at #UniversalJoint. We randomely sat down and began chatting with this gentleman. After a bit, he said goodbye and left. He returned a few minutes later and placed some money in my hand--"Have a nice lunch on me". We said thank you and he quickly left. I opened my hand to find $100! Like...where they do that at?!!! The waiter, who was present, got a fat tip that day!. . Thanks to @ch8singwaterfalls and #collectivelyoutside for this opportunity. I went hiking this weekend thru a meetup with @outdoorafro whose goal is to dispel the idea that black people do not participate in outdoor activities.
