Last Saturday I was in the Boston Pride Parade, the first Pride I’ve ever been to and honestly it was one of the best days of my life! People were so excited to see Bubbline at pride and it was so much fun I didn’t even mind how bad my heels hurt or the fact that my face paint took forever 100% worth it! Hi there! @matthewraifman here for #takeovertuesday. I wanted to kick today off with one of my favorite photos of @fenwaypark. Boston is a baseball town and, like so many of you, the @RedSox hold a special place in my heart. One of the first times I remember feeling that I was a part of something special in Boston was when the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the 2004 AL Championship Series and eventually went on to break the Curse. I was just a college kid at the time taking photos for the student newspaper and I am grateful that I had a chance to witness history in the making.

STRUGGLING WITH MY MOM ACCEPTING MY SEXUALITY WITHOUT CONDITIONS ️‍ . i have mentioned in the past that my mom is “accepting” of my sexuality. i put accepting in quotations because she has conditions around her acceptance that are really hard for me to hold. . when i came out to my mom three years ago she was very upset, confused and sad. after a long talk that night – after all the screaming and yelling – she said to me, “you’re my daughter. you i can accept. i just have to let go of all of my dreams for you.” . i felt super proud of her for saying that, and saying that so quickly considering i sprung the fact that i was gay AND meeting my new gf at the time on her all at once. . i was so proud of my mom, watching her (over time) embrace, include and open up to my first gf. her progress in such a short time was incredible to see. . it wasn’t always easy though, and it’s not always easy still. my mom and i had a conversation on the phone yesterday that was very disheartening. . while she can “wrap her head around” the fact that i’m gay, it’s very hard for her to accept anyone in my life who doesn’t fit with her preconceived notions of a typical relationship. . very blatantly, she’s not accepting of people who look different than me. who present differently, who identify differently, who are a different age, different religion, different skin color, etc. . this is so hard for me to post and even talk about because it makes me so sad for her, not to mention incredibly angry. . she is very conservative. and i am not. i have an open mind and view sexuality as fluid. she does not. . i know i can’t “change” anyone, but i know in my heart that it’s her own biases that get in her own way. because i’ve seen her connect with people outside of this “box” of who she accepts. . this is something that is weighing really heavy on me this morning. and while i recognize i am fortunate for having a mom who will accept my sexuality, i don’t believe it to be true acceptance unless it’s without conditions. . does anyone else have parents like this? i’m struggling to wrap my mind around it because of her ‘conditions’ - love and acceptance should be unconditional.
