It’s been a wild ride but I’m ready to close the chapter on my in-patient rehab stay at the hospital.✌✌✌It’s such a strange feeling because I’ve been loooking forward to this day since I was admitted two and a half months ago but now it’s so bittersweet. This place and everyone in it saved me. When I arrived in April five days after my stroke via ambulance I was unable to move the left side of my body, I felt half dead but walking out this morning With my family and two best friends by my side I was filled with so much life, hope and gratitude towards God for bringing me to this place and surrounding me with the most amazing people. This was hard but God’s been with me every step of the way. Never be afraid of normal. Normal is so very underrated and is something most people can only aspire to. Essie went outside to use the swing we bought for the kids once. Once. She was a 16 month old baby and went outside to use the swing set bought for their first birthday. It was a mission to get her outside on her portable oxygen (you can see the cylinder poking out of the grass) and used her special love heart pillow to prop her head and wedged her in with blankets. Otherwise her floppy rag doll body would have slipped out and over the side. The sun was shining and our little lady got to have her swing. Once. Look beyond the picture and you’ll feel the love emanating from this special little girl. And you’ll hear my Mummy voice giving a running commentary as my darling daughter went in her swing. Once. THIS. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yesterday just before bed, Ax Man decided to roll over and push up on both arms all by himself for the first time ever! This is a big deal with his right-side cerebral palsy that makes it difficult to use his arm and hand (which is still fisted tightly but that’s ok, small steps!). This is a really big deal! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yesterday I also took the boys to a private head shaping clinic to see about getting helmets to correct Axel’s severe plagiocephaly and Jaxon’s VERY severe scaphocephaly. Jaxon may not be able to get a helmet because of his 2 shunts (1 active, 1 inactive). I’m waiting to hear back but I am hoping there’s something we can do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s not just “cosmetic”. Their ears aren’t symmetrical (noticeably spaced abnormally). Forehead and cheeks not aligned. Severe head shape issues can affect brain development and also cause problems later in life. (Try wearing a bike helmet or any hat with a deformed skull!) I’m angry that once again for months and months I was told there’s nowhere that does this by the public system, when that wasted valuable time. If you want something done right, do it yourself! They may be too old to treat now (if skull has fused shut). And this is yet another thing we’d be paying privately for ($6-8,000). I am hoping they can help Jaxon especially. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today I have an appointment I’ve been waiting for 6 months for for Jaxon: his visual range assessment. ❤️ I’m very nervous for it and hope that 1) this doctor is an expert on CVI (no one around here seems to be so far), and 2) that there’s hope for improving Jaxon’s vision. Oh and 3) that we actually get referred to vision therapy and a teacher for the blind sometime this FACKIN CENTURY. Wish us luck.

22nd of March 2019 In this video I’m practicing more walking. My therapist thought it would be best for me to use a hiking pole as oppose to a walking stick, because I have to hold my hand higher this will avoid hunching or turning into Quasimodo. This is fairly early on with me using the hiking pole. So there’s still quite a lot of improvement to make but it’s getting much better. You’ll notice in this video I swing my left leg around. I struggle with things a lot on my left side. Good afternoon folks. Just an update on our progress with the NDIS stuff. It’s was a really long drama and after a lot of meetings and tooing and frowing we’ve finally been given our new plan. To say there’s big teething problems with it would be an understatement but we’re there now thank goodness ! Overall we’re fairly happy with Jeffs plan although they’ve taken a substantial amount from his personal care and respite which is a bit worrying. We can request a review on that in 3 months time though if we feel that we’re going to exceed what they’ve given us. On a happy note his wheelchair has been approved ! We’re quite excited about this as Jeffs occupational therapist put in for quite a good off road/beach one. We’ve wanted to walk on the beach with him for ages so that will be a real blessing for Jeff. Hopefully his chair fittings will start in the next few weeks ! Still no news on his communication device but they are currently reviewing it so hopefully we’re not waiting for too long Thanks so much to everyone for your assistance and advice with all this.
