So after about 10+ conversations recently with acquaintances that involved some form of, “oh, YOU are the Art Smart Kids lady? I follow you”, I decided it might be time for a pic and an introduction to any new followers.
Well, this is me, Melissa Laskaris, with my sidekick hubby Brian, a.k.a. G and C’s dad, Art Smart’s I.T. guy, Coach Brian to many, talented photographer, and my biggest supporter who supports our family so that my dream of Art Smart Kids can be a reality.
I just celebrated my 44th birthday (also known as my 2 4s birthday thanks to my preschoolers), and I feel like I’ve had the privilege of experiencing so many amazing things in my 44 years. So, (short version), I have an undergrad degree in art education and taught in Memphis for years. I also have a Master of Architecture degree that took 3 1/2 of the longest years of my life to accomplish. Sometimes it still makes me tired just to think about the sleep I missed. Architecture is what brought us to Nashville. I came here to work for an amazing firm designing hospitals. I loved the complexity of hospital design and still have some of the most random facts stuck in my head. The never ending work load and extensive travel (and a hubby with an equally demanding job) didn’t quite lend themselves to the lifestyle we personally wanted for our young family, so I left the world of architecture behind to be a full time mom.
Never one to sit still I jumped into playgroups, volunteer work and community involvement, and have been blessed to meet some of the world’s most wonderful people. This life has never been what I would’ve imagined, but it’s been oh so good.
Fast forward to kids growing and heading off to school and people constantly asking me about art classes (again short version), and the dream of Art Smart Kids began to grow. Here we are almost one year from the launch and I can truly say that this journey has brought me more joy than I’ll ever be able to express. I get to work with the BEST kids and families and I will forever be thankful for your support. I hope you’ll continue to follow along as Art Smart Kids grows. I have fun plans for the future! If you’re still reading random facts below.
Let’s get these swag bags filled, giveaways in place and LOADS of sleep information on point! Don’t miss your spot to register for the free event tomorrow at the Brentwood Public Library at 1 PM CST
