Failing I have been told that I am struggling because of my mental health, that it is a product of post natal depression. But is it? I feel like this not just because of mental illness or because I find things more difficult than anyone else. I feel like it is because looking after small children is genuinely hard. No one is talking about how hard it actually is. New mothers are set up to fail, we are told we can have it all, we are told that we should be doing 1, 2 and 3, by a, b and c. We are questioned constantly on things like our ability to get our children to be able to sleep. With probing busy bodies indicating that the scale of sleepiness to wide awake is directly related to your baby or your parenting skills. Are we forced to believe that we are struggling when we are not? When actually we are doing a bloody good job, it is just that hard. Society and the dishonest portrayal of motherhood in the media is making new mums believe that they are not coping and that they are doing something wrong. Maternal mental health is extremely important and I am a huge advocate of supporting families and being open on mental health. I cannot help but think that maybe if women and men were more aware of how tough it can sometimes be with a new baby, the mental health of families would be more protected. I love Easter, it is my favourite time of year. A lovely long weekend and time with the family, without the stress and pressure of Christmas. Also sometimes if you are really lucky the sun is out too. Last week we went on an adventure to #heatonpark we had ice cream and a brew in the cafe, it was so good to be out exploring as a family. ✨I Z M I✨ I absolutely love the @izmi_baby Toddler Carrier, it is the perfect size for Delilah and I found it extremely comfortable. I can sometimes struggle with straps that cross at the back due to the shape of my body, but I had no difficulties with these at all. The straps are really wide and spread over your shoulders to distribute the weight well. ✨Daddy✨ Cass is all about Daddy at the moment, he asks for Daddy when he is not around, cries when Daddy goes to work and it is only Daddy who can do bedtime. I absolutely love the amazing relationship that they have together, it makes me so happy. Daddy was away for a few days last week and I was starting to worry about how Cass was going to cope, or rather how I was going to cope. The time together did us the world of good and I feel like our old bond is back. We went on a long walk to the sweet shop, stayed up late watching Peppa Pig, had a tea party in the play house and even did some cooking together. Daddy is home again now and I am back to being second best, Cass even told me to go to work so that Daddy could stay at home.
