Never forget the struggle & never underestimate the growth that comes from your hardships. I learned a lot through that hard time, all my hard times really. But one thing that stands out the most from this one is that even at the lowest low when I was so depressed I wanted to die, I realized I had to figure out how to be ok... how to be happy even though my life felt like I was trapped in a nightmare. Thankfully this surgery lessened my daily struggling to a more tolerable state. But the greatest thing I did for myself was that I trained myself to find happiness every single day in the smallest simplest things when my life was awful. I am so free now by doing so, I live mostly in the moment enjoying what I can from today, each day. There is great power in releasing worry of the future or dread of the past. If you are struggling I challenge you to focus on what will make you feel better right now. Do that, take care of yourself & make good choices. That’s all we can really do. When you let go of over planning or trying to control everything that’s when the magic happens. I actually have a theory that a lot of the depression in this country is due to the fact that we live far too comfortably & we become complacent. Me a year ago. What a difference a year can make & what a difference the surgery made. I lived with that awful injury for a year & a half waiting 'to see if it would get better' I kinda wish I had just pushed harder for the surgery sooner but electing to get your neck cut open is scary business!! Heading into week 6 with the #surgicalhalo I’ve talked with a few other women who have gone through the same procedure and all three of them wore their halo’s for 8-9 months. Someone just liked this picture so I thought I would repost it cuz it's so gnarly this was right after I woke up from my neck surgery. I asked my cousin for some sunglasses, had her & my sister change me out of the backless gown into my own sleeping dress threw on some makeup & went down to the Starbucks in the lobby this was all before the local antistatic wore off, I mean look at that eyeshadow lmfao, you can see my surgeons sharpie marks creepy If you know me at all you would know that is so how I roll lol #coffeefirst but omg once those meds wore off I was stuck in there the next 3 days in horror until they finally got it together & regained control of my pain.
