The perfect woman I had imagined in my head, was no longer someone I could pretend being. To dig myself out of the debt hole I created, I had to take a hard look at not only the numbers but at my behavior. The harsh truth and weight of comparing myself to others, and being able to admit that out loud was hard. When did someone else's numbers & progress become more important than my own? Was it really okay to feel so much more emotion looking at their success over what I felt looking at mine? I lost what it felt like to be proud. Learning to love myself, and everything that came with the real woman that I genuinely was, took time and a lot of soul-searching. With a world which is continually trying to sell me the version of “her” that I tried being for so long, it’s still hard to this day. But I know that the woman the world is trying to sell me doesn’t exist. But I do. The fact of the matter is, no one thing will ever transform you into someone else or the perfect version of what you imagine, and pretending to be someone you are not, will never make you that perfect woman. You will always be the same you – only with more unnecessary expenses in your budget, and a new pair of shoes. What I have learned is that you have something that no one else has. No one has your story, your smile, your laughter or personality. How can you compare when you are the one thing in this world that is completely unique. Without you, this world wouldn't be the same. Your success and progress may not look like others, but they still aren't you. You're on a different stage, your own stage, and that's something that needs to be embraced. When the rest of the world is telling you to wear that dress, you put on the dang jeans. You stay true to who you are, and you love yourself every step of the way. Back from the Getaway House and honestly the only thing I was missing was my crispy air fried Trader Joe’s gnocchi! Ryan and I spent 2 days of disconnecting, hiking (we’re actually still sore AF from the strenuous steep mountain hike, the second hike we did that day), and enjoying the simpler things in life. I'm finally all ready for July AND two of my events (one holiday) is fully funded with cash! I will be using two sinking funds in July. For the past 12 months, I have been stashing small amounts away for Fourth of July and Chris's Birthday. I have $102 saved for 4th of July and $200 saved for Chris's birthday on July 15th. In the beginning, I remember putting these types of expenses on my credit card. Not anymore. I have the cash. When people tell me there's no point to saving small amounts. What is $2 or $5 going to do for you? It does this. Small amounts can go a long way. Sometimes it's the difference between going into debt and financial freedom. My debt journey was not just about making debt payments. It was about learning small habits and managing my money in a way where I wouldn't go back into debt in the future. Sometimes you have to say no to the sales, even when it means you might spend more. Today, I went into Target to get my son some new sandals. I only had one thing on my list, and my budget was $15. I use my Misc envelope for these types of purchases because they don't happen very often. Starting next month, I will have a dedicated Clothing Envelope. I showed on my Instagram stories that Target was having a "buy one get one free" sale on select children sandals. The sale was only for the sandals that cost $3.99. So if I went with the sale, I would have got 2 pairs of sandals for a little over $4. Here's the problem. Since my son was old enough to walk, he has always been extremely picky about his shoes. They can't be too tight, or he won't wear them. Same goes with sandals. Finding a pair that he will actually wear is like searching for a needle in a haystack. I ended up buying him a pair of sandals that I KNOW he will wear and will be comfortable in. Total cost = $8.70 The sandals on sale were not the best quality, and they were plastic, which would have hurt my son's feet. Did I spend more money. Yes. But if I bought the sandals on sale, I would be buying them simply because they were on sale. Which means two weeks from now, I would find myself back at the store buying another pair. It took a long time for me to break this mindset. Sacrificing what I really wanted and needed in an effort to save money and call myself frugal. I still stayed under budget BUT I also passed on an opportunity to save money. Being honest with yourself, and knowing what deals to take advantage of are really important on your financial journey. First, I want to say Happy Father's Day to all of the wonderful dads out there. Do you want to know what my favorite day is to work on my finances? Sunday mornings. Finding a peaceful time, where you are happy, alert, and comfortable is the best time to think clearly about your money and be the most productive. Working on your finances when you are stressed, in a rush, or overworked can lead to you making decisions on impulse and what you are feeling at that time. I try to sleep in on Sundays and dedicate it to my family, but I also find that peaceful time in the morning to get some work done. Its usually before anyone gets up. This morning, I updated my expense trackers, completed my $2-A-Day Savings Challenge, started my July budget calendar, got caught up on my business spending and tracking, started filling out my Where Did My Money Go worksheets for June, and thought about tweaks that I could make to my budget to save money. It took about a half hour for my personal finances and about an hour of work on my business finances. Today, I gave up some reading time to finish up some work on my business finances. I challenge you to find one day out of the week, one part of that day, to reflect and work on your finances. A peaceful, quiet time, where you are the happiest and most comfortable. I love getting my cup of coffee, sitting with a warm blanket in my sweats, and just allowing myself to think about my finances. Some of my best decisions were made during these times.
