Atina Akropolisi. Caryatidler, Vitruvius'un sözlerinden de anlaşılacağı gibi, Caryatid adıyla uzun tunikler giymiş, architraves, raflar veya bir binanın diğer bölümlerini desteklemek için sütün olarak kullanılan, kadın heykellerini temsil eden mimari unsurları kasdediyoruz. Caryatidleri incelemek ve hayranlıkla ilgilenmek için en güzel örneklerinden biri Atina Akropolü'nde bulunan bir tapınak olan Erectheum'dur. Erectheum iki küçük çocuk tarafından kuşatılmış merkezi bir gövdeden oluşmakta olup, en etkileyici kısmı, tapınağın güney tarafının bir ucunda bulunan Caryatid'lerin sundurmasıdır. Bu durumda Caryatidler güçlü yapılı kadınlar, kıyafetlerini sütunların yivlerini hatırlatan kalın bir perdelik bezemeyle süslüyorlar. ______________ Caryatids, Erechtheum, Acropolis of Athens. As can be seen from the words of Vitruvius, with the name of Caryatid we refer to the architectural elements that represent sculptures of women, dressed in long tunics, used as columns in order to support architraves, shelves or other parts of a building. It is therefore an anthropomorphization of architectural figures. The function of Caryatids is active and not passive (a supporting and not decorative function), as they replace with their body the role of columns or leaves. One of the greatest examples to study and admire the Caryatids is the Erechtheum, a temple located on the Acropolis of Athens. The Erechtheum is composed of a central body which is flanked by two independent minors, the most fascinating part is the "loggia of the Caryatids" located at one end of the southern side of the temple. Savaştan zaferle çıkan Yunanlılar, Karya halkına savaş açarlar. Kenti ele geçirip erkeklerini öldürerek devleti ıssızlığa terk ederler. ‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️ Kadınları da köle olarak kaçırırlar ve uzun giysilerini ve diğer evlilik simgelerini çıkarmalarına izin vermeyerek zafer alayında onları zorla teşhir ederler. Bu kadınlar şehrin utancının ağırlığı altında ezilerek sonsuza dek köleliği temsil edecekler ve devletlerinin kefaretini ödemiş olacaklardır. Karya halkının günah ve cezalarının ardılları tarafından da bilinerek sürdürülmesi için, kamu yapılarına kadınların bu yükün altında ezildiklerini gösterecek biçimde heykellerini yerleştirirler.
