Everyone always asks me, “Why Dentistry?” Well the simple answers are that I love helping people, being creative, and I love science. Dentistry embodies all of these but it also gives me so much more. . . It’s very fulfilling to me to be able to have my own business and be very creative with my passion. When I have patients that come in and tell me that they hate their smile, and have trained themselves to not smile for photos, and not show their teeth, I get such a rush. I know they are in the right place. . . I love being able to give them their dream smile, because it fulfills my own dream. It keeps me motivated. But the love I have for dentistry began when I was much younger. The truth is, I didn’t have great experiences with dentistry growing up. I had a “bad” dentist, a “bad” orthodontist, and a lot of painful experiences. I had braces 3 times!! I had treatment that was done poorly and failed over and over again. I have a cracked root that may eventually need to be extracted and have an implant placed. So, I’ve been through it. I understand the fear people have. I understand what it takes to do quality work. Being exposed to so much dentistry at such a young age made me very curious. As I got older, I started to notice everyone’s teeth. . . I started to see dentistry as something that would be fun. It could even be... Glamorous. As I went through dental school and started my career, I wanted to change how people saw dentistry. It didn’t have to be this scary thing that everyone dreads. . . Going to the dentist could be beautiful, it could be healthy, it’s a way of pampering and taking care of yourself! I made it my goal to make sure that none of my patients ever felt the way I did when I was younger. Every time I work on a tooth it’s like a tiny little project to me, and I love it. Every time a patient comes in and tells me they haven’t been to a dentist in 5 years and they are afraid, and by the time they leave they tell me that their experience was amazing, I couldn’t be happier. “You might think I’m crazy” I said, “but, I want to go on vacation every month.” He laughed at me and said okay. . . So the first year of our marriage, I spent a ton of time crafting some beautiful vacations. I thought it was weird that he didn’t question me much... like how would I take time away from my business... or why I wanted to travel so much. So one day I asked him why he was so okay with it... and why he laughed. He told me that when I want something, I find a way to do it. So him trying to convince me that we shouldn’t go out of town each month, that it was possibly dangerous for my business, his business, (and our bank account), wasn’t going to work. He knew that when things seem impossible, and when all the doors are shut, I’ll climb through a chimney. So he went with it... We spent our first year of marriage traveling to somewhere new every single month. It was incredible. . . This didn’t happen because I’m lucky, or different. Nor am I special in anyway. I just know how to get what I want... I do it by creating my own opportunities. And I know it’s something that you can do too. I believe that where there is a will there is a way. If you write down your dreams, and you think about what you want in your life, if you’re passionate about it and if you want it badly enough, you will make it happen... you will find a way. So continue to dream big, and continue to go for it, even when others think you’re crazy, and even if others are laughing at you.

As I read through my DMs I see so many similar questions. Many of them about dentistry and dental treatment, and then I get tons of business questions. How do you run a business? What steps did you take? Where do you start? How to you manage staff? I can go on for days about this type of stuff. But when it comes to running a business, one of the biggest tips I can give you is to know how to do everything. Don’t become so dependent on your staff that you forget how to do things. Or worse, don’t depend on them so much that they know more than you do in an area. Never get too comfortable! This is a recipe for disaster. . . Why? Well in small businesses, most people (including me) have a small but mighty team. That means that if one of your employees is out, it’s a BIG deal. I see this all the time in practices. An employee is out sick and the entire office falls apart, everyone is scrambling and stressed out. That’s no way to be! If you are able to cover the tasks of your missing employee, the work day will go much better. Maybe slightly slower, but everything will be done. Oh and in the process, treat your employees with respect and treat them like gold. They are your team members. They are helping you build your dreams. Help them build theirs too. . . Another huge tip... do your best work. Always. Don’t cut corners. Every single person that walks through your door is a human and should be cared about. Remember that without those people, you don’t have a business. It’s one thing to market your practice and get people in the door. It’s another thing to be able to keep them coming back. Pay attention to them, listen to their needs, communicate, and take care of them. When you truly care for your patients, they will care for you too

One of my favorite things to do is custom shading... you can take all the photos and videos in the world but nothing replaces somebody actually customizing your teeth in person for you. It’s something that I’ve offered since the beginning of my career, because I always understood that the details are what separate the good and the great. . . So enjoy some of these behind the scene clips of custom shading for this case. You can see that underneath the restorations, his natural teeth were all a different color (some dark, some very white). To make everything look the same, custom shading was the best option. . . Can’t wait to share some before/after photos of this case. This smile makeover has completely transformed this gentleman’s look!

His high level of energy... It was the first thing that attracted me to him... along his positivity towards every situation in life. I saw happiness in his life, and I wanted to be a part of it. I loved how fun he was to be around. I met my husband 10 years before we started dating. And on that 10th year, we reconnected at an engagement party. Our conversation that night had me so intrigued. . . I loved his consistency with me (he would call me at the same time every morning to tell me I’m going to have a great day). I loved the way he treated others, even if they were random strangers. I loved how generous he was (he would buy food for the homeless). I loved the way he would look at me. But mostly, I loved how happy he genuinely was. He would say that he’s just light hearted, or that I’m the one that makes him happy, but his intense energy in the mornings since the minute he opens his eyes, tells a different story. . . Now, 14 years since we had met, I get to witness this this energy each morning when he wakes up. His energy gives me life, it brings me happiness. His positivity keeps me going and I couldn’t be more thankful to have him in my life.
