“Maybe if you tried...”
*
One of the hardest parts about raising a child with anxiety or OCD (other than the obvious), is the unsolicited advice you’ll get from people who don’t get it.
*
At the very least, it can be irritating. but at it’s worse it can make you doubt your parenting.
*
People raising kids with anxiety or OCD are often told...
*
You just can’t let him get away with that.
*
She’s manipulating you.
*
You are babying him.
*
He just needs “tough” love.
*
We all have worries, isn’t that normal?
*
It’s just a phase. Stop giving it so much attention.
*
But I want you to know, you got this.
*
Trust your gut. Trust your parenting.
*
Surround yourself with people who get it and get you.
*
You are not alone. Give a ♀️♀️♂️♂️ if you are a brave parent raising a brave child with anxiety or OCD. There are many of us out there. Who know exactly what you are experiencing.
Anxiety can make you brave.
*
Brave enough to do things, even though your body is shouting NO.
*
Brave enough to go through the day, even though you feel like throwing up, fainting or dying.
*
Our anxious kids are brave.
*
They are confronted with obstacles other kids don’t usually have to face.
*
They have to overcome things, other kids don’t usually have to overcome.
*
They are some of the bravest people I know.
*
❤️❤️❤️ Give a or a ♂️♀️ if you have a brave warrior at home.
You feel sick.
*
You feel like you have to pee...again.
*
You feel like you might throw up.
*
You feel your heart racing.
*
When you accept the sensations of anxiety, you take all the power away from anxiety.
*
Many people panic about the panic. Get sick over feeling sick. *
Accepting those sensations as anxiety and doing things anyway, takes the wind out of anxiety’s sails.
*
A hard thing to do, but super effective when you master it!
*
Something we are actively trying to do in my home.
*
❤️❤️❤️
Parentification is defined as a type of role reversal, boundary distortion, and inverted hierarchy between parents and other family members in which children or adolescents assume developmentally inappropriate levels of responsibility in the family of origin that go unrecognized, unsupported, and unrewarded (Muir Wood Teen). The trauma resulting from this experience has the potential to last a lifetime. Allow children to remain children. They are not, "the man of the house," "Mommy's little helper," your surrogate partner, BFF or any other role that should be filled by another adult - no matter how hard things get, or if you're in a bind or how mature for their age you think they are. A temporary fix isn't worth the permanent scar it will undoubtedly leave... #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #children #childmentalhealth #child #breakthecycle #breakthestigma #parenting #parentification

These words have become a well known slogan but it's important to take the time to consider the impact of these words and how we attend to children's emotional needs.
This would make a lovely poster! I found this image uncredited on Instagram - please do let me know the artist if you are aware and I can ensure they are highlighted in this post
