In the wake of YET ANOTHER sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church one must consider the role religious leaders play in perpetuation of trauma in our communities. I was raised Catholic- and fairly early on felt like it was a farce- but was still required to complete all religious education until my confirmation. I just heard a story that priests (yes multiple) forced a child to strip naked on a rectory bed and pose as Christ on the cross while they photographed him- adding it to a large collection of child pornography created on church grounds. I often get a lot of push back for this work Playing God- particularly from my very Catholic family. But what is the percentage of these priests and bishops who commit and cover up these crimes that see jail time? There are people serving decades in prison for marijuana possession yet these monsters, who are revered by their communities, are playing god with the mental health of children across the globe. These men are protected by the church which just perpetuates the abuse. I have no respect for an organization- religious or otherwise- that turns its back on children and refuses to take responsibility for such an epidemic of sexual assault and abuse. I’ll never be sorry I made this work. I’m only sorry I can’t do more to protect children from the very people who are meant to guide them.

We all have a personal responsibility in what we deem acceptable and what we allow to happen to the children in our care! Here's an excerpt: . . "We should never encourage our girls in acts that blur the lines of what’s normal from abnormal and what’s safe from what’s potentially dangerous. Wining is normal. A grown man wining on a little girl’s ass is not! We must protect our girls and not make them targets by posting videos of them online engaging in suggestive scenarios for the world to judge and misjudge. In this digital age, we have a moral responsibility to preserve the innocence and privacy of children. In my time, my errors and mistakes as a child were never front and center on someone’s Facebook page or shared in Whatsapp groups. Once it’s shared on the internet, you can’t control where it goes nor can you remove it. A normal cultural pastime and rite of passage such as wining is now being overly sexualized and advertised on the internet, over-exposing our little girls and boys to sex offenders and robbing them of the protection we owe them by not violating their privacy."
