We left the house early yesterday, to drive to the hospital for Danny’s mri and ct scans. I packed the kids some snacks, brought books and tablets. We turned the music up in the car and our hearts were lifted in praise each mile of the way. Their sweet little voices singing out, “It is well with my soul...” . . It was a day of waiting, questions, people watching and the reality of suffering once again placed before our little loves. . . I had thought of asking friends to watch them for the day, but felt prompted to once again take them along. Part of me wants to shelter them from the talk of scans, of the possibility that cancer can return, but my heart knows they need to be brought into this process. It’s part of our lives now, we don’t want to shelter them from this journey the Lord has us on. We long to embrace His goodness, accept His will, rest in His promises. We have been graced an opportunity to put our faith into motion right in the middle of uncertainty, in literal waiting rooms. . . We have been praying together for this day, asking the Lord for continued health and strength for their Daddy. Every conversation and situation requires wisdom and grace to not just drag them through more appointments, but to guide their experiences, thoughts and feelings through the Word; always paying attention to their hearts. . . As their Dad was called in for his mri, I looked over to see my little man deep in prayer. Despite the strangers all around him he spoke his heart out loud asking Jesus to please help his Daddy. . . We have asked the Lord to reveal Himself to our children, to draw their souls to Him - but we don’t get to chose how He is going to do that. We can only thank Him that He does and surrender to His Way, which is good and full of love. . . And I don’t want to forget how Izzy’s little smile and wave changed the day for an elderly, very ill criminal who was chained and guarded, but visibly moved by innocent love. He was prayed for as she went to bed, “that somebody would tell him about Jesus.” . . Exhausted, I sat down at the end of the day and two little prayers are all I can think about. Faith and love refined in the waiting room.

We must not delegate too much responsibility for the spiritual development of our children to our churches. Between my Kona and Indonesia trip was a speaking engagement I had in Maryland and Virginia. It would have been easier to go on my own, way way easier. What would they do... what would they eat... how would they sleep? Going together was the harder choice, but, by far, the better choice. Because at the end of the day, they don’t need more comfort ... or even more balance. They just want to be together. . . When Elijah was in a transition in his life, he didn’t know what to do with his spiritual son Elisha. So, he kept pushing Elisha away. But the key to Elisha’s blessings was simply to remain by Elijah’s side. . . Kingdom power flows through kingdom relationships. Remain together. . . I don’t talk about her much, my unnamed girl, the one who made me a mother. I only had one girl name picked out so I saved it...“Samantha; one who listens to God” She was too fragile and they already told me she won’t make it. They would only keep her comfortable is what they said. So we didn’t name her. We prayed over her that God would welcome her back to heaven. It was December 4, 2010. A few days before, I had felt her kick for the first time. Now I know she was saying hi and bye, the one who made me a mother. This Mother’s Day I’m sending love to all women, especially the ones who hear the loud silence when they walk into their homes. It’s impossible to understand the emptiness if you haven’t been empty before. Somehow today it was hard to post a picture perfect image of me and my three with a Happy Mother’s Day message. I couldn’t stop thinking of all my sisters living that emptiness right now. I was there before. I’ve heard people say if only I would just feel the weight of a baby in my belly even if they never made it...like the one who made me a mother. Repent from those words. Waiting is hard, but loosing a child is worse. More than a Happy Mother’s Day message, today I’m praying for all Mothers-in-waiting that God will prepare you ahead for your parenting journey because it will come in Jesus name • "He has made everything beautiful in its time.
