What should happen after we complete the leg extension during a Snatch? . In the video, Zou Han demonstrates a great exercise that you can practice to reinforce the correct barpath. I will call it "snatch high-pull to overhead without leg extension" or comment below to give it a better name. The best one will get a free 8-week leg strength and hypertrophy program. . How do we do this exercise? Stand straight first, easy right? No. I have coached many athletes and most of them don't know how to stand straight. To stand straight correctly, lock your knees and stand like a soldier. This can be the thing that is holding you back. If you haven't learnt how to stand straight correctly, how can you complete an explosive leg extension at will. . Once you are all set, with a snatch grip, with very little hip momentum, shrug up and pull with the elbows. The important point is to make sure you are imagining your elbows are both pointing to the sky. One good cue that I use is "literally brush your top with the barbell" and this works well to keep the bar close. . After we have pulled upwards, think about punching the weights up aggressively into the lockout position. The weights should be stabilising and securing right behind the ears with both traps shrugged up. But not only should the traps be engaged, we have to push both our rhomboids and lats up to support the weight (future post). . One common mistake is athletes tend to swing the bar forward with their arms (demonstrated at the end of the video); it is not ideal to draw a half circle with the bar. Imagine drawing that half circle, where is the direction of the momentum? Will you be able to precisely secure the bar OVER your head? . Implement this exercise into your training if you find it difficult to keep the bar close after the leg extension or can’t find the precise overhead position. .
