Here are my suggestions to help overcome comparison on social media... . Reduce your time on social media . - Allow yourself five to ten minutes a day to check your social media accounts and then be done with it. Especially avoid looking at profiles of people who trigger thoughts of comparison. . Redirect your focus on the things that really matter . - Make a list of activities and then schedule them onto a calendar. Since we often spend time on social media when we have little else going on, having scheduled plans will reduce the time we are sitting idle. . Assess where those negative comparisons are stemming from . - As unpleasant as these comparisons can feel, they can serve a positive purpose in that they inform us of an area of our lives that may benefit from some improvement. . Trust that what you see in them, doesn't take away from what's in you. Trust that where you are at in life, right now, is exactly where God planned for YOU to be. Trust that the way you look, is oh so so beautiful, and EXACTLY who God hand-designed for YOU to be. Trust that just because there life looks easy and pain-free, doesn't it mean has been or is. And that sometimes, if you could see what they have gone through, you'd never even think about trading places. Trust that the feelings in your stomach when you begin to compare, have less to do with them and who THEY are, and more about you, and what God wants to heal IN you. Trust that, whenever the tinge of comparison begins to take root in your heart, you can pause, take a breathe, and truly stop it with the Truth of Jesus, before it has the chance to ever start. Trust that the life God has given you, the beauty He has given YOU, the ministry and calling He has given YOU, can't compare to anyone else. Why? Because there is only ONE of you, friend. Only ONE of you who can light up this world and do only what you can do with Jesus in you. And the moment you allow comparison in, it takes your eyes off of Him, and puts them onto them, and then takes you down a tunnel thoughts that only ends in destruction. Comparing doesn't stop by focusing on more of us, but taking in more of HIM, trusting in who HE is, and who He made each of us to be. So next time you begin comparing, take a breath, and begin TRUSTING. God is a God of perfection, you are you for a reason, and everything He designed and planned for YOU to be is BECAUSE of Him and MADE with absolute perfection. . Don’t focus on them. Focus on Him. ❤️

Every time I go onto social media, it seems like five more people have gotten engaged, married, or had a baby (which is fantastic!) AND as a person who is single and will be in school/ working towards becoming licensed for another four years, I often struggle with comparing where I'm at and feeling behind. For years, I felt ashamed that I had to take two years off after high school to go to treatment for an eating disorder because I was "behind" my friends. I felt guilty for taking five years instead of four to finish undergrad. And now, I sometimes compare the fact that some of my peers are so much more established in their careers when I've only just started mine. . But when I connect with what I know to be true, I remember that without those delays and struggles, I wouldn't be the person I am today. I would have never discovered my passion for mental health and pursued a clinical psychology degree. I wouldn't have developed this level of compassion and emotional intelligence. I wouldn't have met certain friends that I now can't imagine being without or have been connected with opportunities that have opened important doors. And so, I'm trying to trust in this process. trying to trust that the universe will lead me where I’m meant to go. And I hope you can too. . You life is allowed to look different. There’s no right or wrong. And there’s no timeline. Just different paths and processes. Different barriers and limitations and needs. It doesn’t make sense to force your life into someone else’s box when you have completely different obstacles. It doesn’t make sense to settle or rush your process. Or compromise what you need for self care in order to paint the image that you’re just like everyone else. . Just because you're here now doesn't mean youll be here forever. But even if you are, even if you never get back on course or reach where other people are, your life is still meaningful and worthy of living. You never have to apologize for what you need to do to survive. #daniellkoepke
