Land is not only one of the most important resources, but it is also a means to the realisation of many human rights such as the right to food, the right to life and the right to adequate housing, among others. In Uganda, land-related disputes are not new. They existed prior to and during colonialism, as well as in the immediate post-colonial administrations. The only constant in these disputes is that the State has always been a key player. This has greatly influenced the socio-economic and political positions of different groups of people. Land conflicts escalate in at least 30 districts in Uganda unless urgent measures are taken to resolve them.
