Dom Pérignon Rosé 2000, always a very solid performer. I posted this one not long ago from our tasting in Stockholm so I won’t write fully detailed notes again. But same impression as last time, great aromas of small red berries, forest berries, and smoky character. A lot of grapefruit and blood orange too. Crazy impression of crushed cooked strawberries, simply delicious! Overall, a nice impression of maturity. The wine is full and concentrated yet quite delicate. Dosage is high, as we could expect from such wine that is supposed to please all the palates of the luxury champagne industry. A sweet wine can be stunning.. Château d'Yquem 2005 Sauternes 1er Cru. 113 ha of vineyards, all to create real emotions, a favorable climate, clay soils, ancestral work lasting for more than 400 years. Sémillon majority and Sauvignon grapes, long aging in new oak. The result (quick note for this one) : Intense gold dress, bright reflection. Pure dried fruits and apricot notes, very compote, nuttier than expected, rich and complex, almost exotic with vanilla touches. I felt new oak and I’m sure this will be attenuated in few years. Precise, opulent and fat palate, very complex, orange zest refreshed the sip, juicy stone fruits. Acidity and freshness counterbalanced each other, nice sweet length. I would give 5 years more for huge rounds with. A wonderful moment with Nicolas Groffier who told us a lot about there range and vineyard. This Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru Les Amoureuses is a unicorn wine and we were lucky to taste it why the creator. They have got the largest plot of Les Amoureuses with approximately 1.7 ha, so iconic to be there and have some sips. For the approach, directly on red and black fruits, no place for other aromas, ripe cherries and red berries. Quite gamy, animal scents, very deep, with earthy notes (young forest floor, mousseron). A part of destemming (around 50%), Nicolas explained us that the maturity of grapes is the more important step to keep in mind. Very large bouquet after few minutes, very pure, violet and other flowers notes, vegetal too, It reminded me some wines from Prieuré-Roch. Dense palate, maybe the most character of all their wines, with some roundness, but such a great touch and texture, brilliant one. Everything was surrounded by great delicacy. Firm tannins with the youth obviously but... Another unicorn wine during an unexpected tasting. Saint-Aubin 1er Cru sur Gamay 2009 from Comte Marey & Comte Liger Belair. Both institutions were created in 1720 in Nuits Saint-Georges, this wine is an historical wink of these two families having negotiated the greatest plots together since the 18th century. Since 2000, the Comte Louis-Michel is responsible for leading the Comte Liger-Belair estate. Mainly in Red, this wine is quite rare, and I couldn’t find any winemaking information of this Chardonnay, does anyone can put some statements in comments ? Intense yellow color here, very generous. Flowers and expressive fruit aromas for the approach. Slightly smoked and well integrated wood notes. Oxydative, little reduction, buttered, quite complex, vegetal notes, a bit confused, little lack of precision. Mid-fat palate, I appreciate Saint-Aubin appellation like this, exotic notes, great acidity, and shown nice freshness for the overall taste. Beautiful work from Marlène Soria as always... served blind for me and couple of friends, while I was doing the same for them with a Grange des Pères 2003, just to compare (same region, same vintage). GDP 03 was amazingly powerful at every stage, making this Oro 03´ as a child in expression first. We said let’s concentrate on the glass on our right. (the Oro). 70% Rolle, 25% Roussanne, and 5% Viognier. It had a great beautiful thick golden color, shiny reflections. My first nose was directly on profound minerals and silex notes, very floral, white and yellow flowers. This was really complex, I said Loire wine first and maybe Rhone with Hermitage, even on Condrieu. More candied citrus, dry apricot when we were focusing on it. Slightly jammy, waxy. Rich mouth, hidden first by the GDP. But this was unctous, round, great woody touches, very dense, but the minerality brought the freshness we were looking for with those 2 powerful rounds. Quite oxidative, great balance with persistence acidity. Totally share The Marlene Soria choice to make bottles available 10 or even 15 years after the harvest. I think I can’t be happier than when I see some Chétillons from Peters in a wine list... we have already tasted 2008 vintage last summer that was already stunning. Superb purity of fruits and chalkiness, as usual. Super fresh but complex already. The wine is changing along our dinner and is simply brilliant. We kept a glass until the end and the wine was just explosive. As I was saying in my previous post, we were lucky to exchange with Gilles Descotes, Bollinger Chef de Cave. Another focus on this La Grande Année 1992 Magnum, a complicated year (gray rot), but I felt the Bollinger capacity to execute each vintage as they would like. 65% Pinot Noir 35% Chardonnay, around 8g/L of dosage, less production as usual. First champagne I’ve tasted this day, first nose and palate. Intense gold, Amber and orange reflections. Balancing between fine notes and powerful background, warm, liked the Pinot Noir touches. Not so hard nose, well honeyed, opulent, bread scents, maybe a bit too ripe with plum and apricot notes. Mushrooms side, some citrus with significant evolution right there.
