My experience with the older cliental (<50 years old) has given me reason to believe they have a sense of brittleness when it comes to their body. Some have a mental predisposition that if they move in a certain way, they will get hurt. I define this mindset as “overly cautious.” This idea usually stems from a history of injury or something that felt funny and caused them to move in a different manner. Now, I’m not saying medical history doesn’t play a factor in the efficiency of movement but I am saying that function can be gained or re-gained with the proper stimuli in the proper environment. I have implemented controlled articular rotations from the @functionalrangeconditioning system into Virginia’s program to improve a dysfunctional hip. 2 sessions in (and the rightful removal of bulky sneakers) she already has shown great signs of improvement in mobility but mainly CONTROL of her 80 year old hip. She, as much as I, is excited for every session now that she’s pain free and her hips are “less cranky.” Age is simply a number, body mechanics on the other hand, can be measured by the body’s ability to move thru space in the least amount of pain as possible. If you can’t move things without sacrificing movement elsewhere, get to a #FRCms yesterday.
