I just cut the last piece of brass for my She-Ra inspired headpiece This morning I used the trusty old treadle scroll saw to cut the center section of brass. Now that all of the pieces are cut, I can begin shaping them and soldering them together. Ever wonder what a “draper” does? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look! • I use the designer’s sketch to mark out the style lines on a dress form that is close to the actor’s measurements. Then I drape fabric over the dress form, manipulating it into the shape we want. After marking the fabric pieces with my style lines, I take off the pieces and have a rough pattern. Some mistakenly believe the widely circulated Sovereign gauntlet GIF is of my latest work...which it is not haha . While I'm proud of what I made in 2016, it's not representative of my current work. They're done!!! Detailed pictures to come later this week. This is my fourth pair of stays but my first pair of hand sewn stays, though admittedly I caved and used my machine on an internal panel. They turned out better than I imagined. ☺️ These stays are modeled after a 1780's pair in the #patternsoffashion5. They are made of linen, sewn with linen thread, and boned with synthetic whalebone from @burnleyandtrowbridge. The silk accents and binding are remnants from my Gainsborough hat.
