Mayor Bill de Blasio has launched an investigation into Con Ed after learning they intentionally cut power to certain Brooklyn neighborhoods to prevent a borough-wide blackout. Their intentional blackout affected over 30,000 families in mostly black and brown communities. As of 7pm thousands are still without power. Twitter reacts. (swipe left)

Ladybug’s biopsy showed she has Cryptococcosis, a systemic fungal disease that causes growths all over her face, body and even the pads of her paws. Cryptococcosis is rare and non-contagious, cats can be infected when living in a contaminated environment surrounded by large amounts of pigeon droppings. It’s sad to think about where she was living before, but she’s safe and very comfortable now. Ladybug has been on a combination of antifungal meds for the last few weeks as vets try to figure out the best way to tackle it (currently Terbinafine and Fluconazole). Progress has been very slow, but under @sarazoekittens’ watchful care, they’re beginning to see the growths slow or reduce a bit, and we’re all prepared for a long road to recovery. Poor Ladybug has had to wear a cone for over a month, as the growth on her nose can be itchy and bothersome, and she’s removed the scab several times trying to get to it. Thankfully she remains in good spirits, purring, making biscuits, and finishing all of her meals every day. She’s gained over two pounds! We’re so thankful to @sarazoekittens for providing her with such great foster care, and appreciative of everyone helping us cover her ongoing medical costs. And we begin again. Mr. Biscuits was charming strangers on the street, until he found someone who refused to just walk by. Local volunteer Kristin has set him up in her bathroom for the time being and we’re lining up a foster home now. A small part of his left ear is missing (this is called an ear tip), which tells everyone that he was previously neutered (or spayed if female). A year ago I would have been upset to see a friendly ear tipped cat outside - why not find them a home? And it's still upsetting, but now I understand this is just reality - many TNR volunteers and colony caretakers are feeding dozens and dozens of community cats over large areas every single day, and wisely choose to prioritize spay/neuter above all else. See @_nyctnrfoster or @sassee_badass_tnr or @the_crazy_cat_fam for example - they are all doing absolutely amazing work, but unfortunately lack the necessary resources to foster/rehome every friendly they find. You can help to fix this by getting involved yourself or supporting independent TNR volunteers and rescuers out on the front lines. In the meantime, Mr. B is one of the lucky ones - safe, very happy to be indoors again, and getting lots of love and attention.
