A stoneware vase/beaker by Waistel Cooper. 1921-2003. Probably made at Culbone circa 1961. Abraided surface treated with manganese oxide. During the 1950s his work was sold alongside that of Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. He was drawn to their vessels, with whom he felt a strong affinity, liking the simplicity and directness of their approach. For years he experimented with clays and bodies, particularly working with the relationship between dark silky Matt glazes and the unglazed clay surface.
