Day 3 and Cork bound. It was an uphill cycle from the very start. Dungarvan to Ardmore via the Waterford Greenway was hills for most of the journey. With two days cycling behind me and the hills stretching out before me, it felt insurmountable at times. Thousands of visitors come to Ireland each year to cycle along the Greenway and I can certainly see why. Miles of flora and cheerful coffee shops. I stopped in the quaint village of Ardmore. Ardmore is a lovely place, beautiful in its quiet simplicity. A rural community where everyone stops to say hello. Onwards then to Cobh, to breathe in the sea view and rest my weary legs. Heartbreak Pier in Cobh, as it is dubbed by the locals, was the departure point for generations of Irish emigrants seeking a better life abroad including 100 passengers who boarded the Titanic on that faithful journey in 1912. From there on to my final destination for the day, Cork City. The challenges I’ve encountered so far are nothing compared to the suffering thousands of people with Cystic Fibrosis go through every single day.
