If you don’t follow my stories, we just got back from 5 beautiful days of #debtfreevacation !! This was the BIG ONE for me! This was the carrot I dangled in front of myself for the entire YEAR of insane mortgage payoff and it was so WORTH IT! It was fun, it was peaceful, and it was exhausting! We took our three children, and were even able to save enough to take my mom with us as our “nanny”! I won’t tell you the budget for this trip because the numbers are all relative, but we did set a budget! And we were conscientious of it, while still having so much fun! We had an incredible moment in Portland while watching the huge firework show where we looked at each other and said “happy independence day” and it had a whole new meaning for us this year. It was amazing and exactly what we hoped for. I’ve been keeping my eye on fb marketplace for the past couple of months trying to find a budget friendly coffee table...well, that didn’t happen Jared said he bet he could make me a little crappy one for less than $20, so I said go for it. I think it turned out way better than crap! Really I’m just here to brag on him... In all seriousness though, not everyone has the ability to spend thousands of $$ on home refreshes, and that’s OK! Here it is! Here we are! Officially under $10,000!!! . . . This has been a long time coming. We had to do a lot before we got to this number. A lot of things we’ve sold, a lot of extra hours we’ve worked, and of course, a lot of things we’ve paid off! It’s such a crazy site to see! I know to some people this number still seems like a lot. But to us... it feels like an accomplishment. . . . I’m in my third trimester and not working the crazy hours I was in the beginning of our journey. But I’m still hoping that if we keep on keeping on that we’ll have a #debtfreebaby! Here’s hoping!!!

Surprise in the mail today!!!!! Ok so way way way back a few months (I can’t even remember when) I got a letter saying there was a class action lawsuit against Kaiser Permanente Hospitals for not paying overtime to their travel nurses/ not getting adequate breaks/ etc. My name was included because I just happened to be a traveler at a Kaiser facility during the specified timeframe. The letter stated that if the case settled, I would be entitled to a share of the money based on how many hours I worked. Well, THAT CHECK CAME TODAY! This is an amazing pick-me-up and early birthday present! Currently trying to figure out which debt I should apply it to! You might be surprised to learn that we use credit cards. Yep, we don't hate them. But here's the thing...we don't misuse them either! We've NEVER carried a balance from month to month (that means we've never paid a penny of interest). We use them for certain purchases (like doctor visits or when we travel) and I usually pay the credit card off at the end of every week. In fact, this year we earned the Companion Pass with Southwest (YAY!). ⁠⠀ So here's the thing with credit cards...YOU DO YOU. And if you can handle having a credit card while still being financially responsible...then do it! But if you have a bad relationship with credit cards or can't help but overspend, then cut those suckers up. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Every person's journey is different. Find what works for you and your family. STOP THE RENT SHAMINGHome ownership is just ONE path to wealth. However, we CHOOSE to rent and instead of investing in a home and building equity there, we CHOOSE to build equity through investments in the stock market. It is our path. I think there's a LOT of rent shaming going, when in reality you could "own" a house and have nothing to show for it and rent and be building wealth in other ways. After watching a Dave Ramsey "we're debt free scream" video, Francesca asked if we could go to Nashville and and do that too. I had to explain to her that I didn't pay off our debt using his steps. In fact, unknowingly, I did the opposite of what he teaches in everything except the part where he tells people to pay off their debt.
