We almost always work from the inside out in ayurveda with food, herbs, and lifestyle. But we also work from the outside in! This treatment, called shirodhara, brings balance to the mind. We use it for anxiety, depression, hair loss, and many imbalances in between. It’s pretty blissful but that’s not the point - its effects go deep deep deep!
Okay phew, I solved the problem, now we can stop having the debate about wether or not meds are good or bad lol. No but, let’s stop trying to convince other people our way is the right way. Hehe. .
.
Meds (in conjunction with a lot of other tools) work for me and I am grateful for that, they don’t work for everyone tho and that is legit.
.
FYI I am on team Wellbutrin300mg after a decade of trial and error with Zolofts and Citaloprams and Effexors and other less legal things. Maybe one day I won’t “need” meds anymore, but I also don’t really see the point in thinking about that, but boy do some people like to preach that as the end goal.

⭐️S.H.I.N.E.⭐️
Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy. .
. Recently heard a very happy person say that, and I thought it was the best acronym ever! .
. One of the reasons I exercise is because it has successfully treated my depression in the past. .
. I knew I didn’t want to take an unnatural, man-made pill with crazy side effects. (And maybe more pills to mask those side effects.) .
. In people with depression, the hippocampus (which regulates mood) is usually smaller. .
. ♀️ Exercising helps nerve cell connections and GROWTH in the hippocampus, which help treat depression!! ☀️ .
. MY 4 TIPS IN GETTING STARTED: .
.
1️⃣ Start off with literally anything active.
(Dancing in your room, walking an easy nature trail, playing outside with your dog, etc. Anything that YOU enjoy.) .
.
2️⃣ Start slowly/easy.
(Even if it’s just 5 minutes a day, you’ll be more likely to adhere to it and eventually increase your time and frequency!) .
.
3️⃣ Eat your veggies! (Studies show a link in depression and high meat/dairy/processed foods.) .
.
4️⃣ Understand it’s not a one-time fix.
(It is a long-term treatment. Believe in yourself, take it step by step, and in just a few weeks, you should notice improvement! Consistency is key for a healthy LIFEstyle.) .
.
I know it’s tough, but if you are struggling with depression, you have a choice. Choose to help yourself!
Hugs
It’s been a hot minute since I got to mile 8 in a run and thought “hey maybe I should round it out to ten!” ⠀
⠀
I’ve been struggle bussing through short, brutal runs for a few months now hoping that someday I’d be friends with running again. ⠀
⠀
Thanks universe, for giving me 10 lovely miles today. I planned 5, then 8, then kept it going to 10. ⠀
⠀
Two years and one day ago I jumped off a climbing wall at the gym and broke my ankle in three places. Every year I’m going to thank the sports ortho surgeons at Shands, the athletes on the internet who told me to stop reading the internet and freaking myself out about rehab, and my friends who suffered (oh, I know y’all suffered me) through my INCESSANT whining. There’s nothing like a major injury to teach you how much work you have to do, emotional regulation wise. Talk about catastrophizing! ⠀
⠀
My #highimpactgratitude today is about resilience. I’m so lucky but I’m also stubborn and committed. I’m committed to showing up on good days and bad days and all the days. ⠀
⠀
Side note: I use running as a mental health treatment. I 100% believe that it is as or more effective than anything I have ever done. Anyone else out there using fitness to stave off depression/anxiety? ⠀

I first started meditating in order to fix my horrendous sleep problems. I’ve always been a bad sleeper and as you might know, that can have a massive effect on your life.
.
I truly believe that if you fix your sleep, the benefits will run deep into many other aspects of your life. In short, getting lots of high quality sleep will make you happier.
.
However if getting a good nights sleep sounds like a fairytale to you then meditation is a great way to make up the deficit in physical and mental rest you are running up each sleepless night.
.
Meditators using a mantra based method have shown during MRI scans to enjoy a deeper level of rest than REM sleep (which is the deepest sleep).
.
If you’re interested but unsure where to start then check my story highlights (meditation challenge) or feed for the Anapana breathing meditation. This is a basic instruction you can comfortably try at home for as little as 5 minutes. .
And if you do try it, I’d love to know how it goes. .

This is Buddhist Monk Mathieu Riccard. Amazing story: .
.
Neuroscientist Richard Davidson wired up the monk's skull with 256 sensors at the University of Wisconsin as part of research on hundreds of advanced practitioners of meditation.
.
The scans showed that when meditating on compassion, Ricard's brain produces a level of gamma waves - those linked to consciousness, attention, learning and memory - 'never reported before in the neuroscience literature', Davidson said.
.
The scans also showed excessive activity in his brain's left prefrontal cortex compared to its right counterpart, giving him an abnormally large capacity for happiness and a reduced propensity towards negativity, researchers believe.
.
Research into the phenomenon, known as "neuroplasticity", is in its infancy and Ricard has been at the forefront of ground-breaking experiments along with other leading scientists across the world.. .
.
We have been looking for 12 years at the effect of short and long-term mind-training through meditation on attention, on compassion, on emotional balance,' he said.
.
. ‘We've found remarkable results with long-term practitioners who did 50,000 rounds of meditation, but also with three weeks of 20 minutes a day, which of course is more applicable to our modern times.'
