We wanted to share with you a few #DesignerLessons to keep in mind when styling bookshelves: 1 - One of the biggest mistakes made when styling shelves is having “too many” “too small” items. The best thing to do with all the smaller pieces is to corral them with baskets or trays. That will give them more visual weight + keep your shelves from looking cluttered. 2 - Stack, Lean, Layer + Group! Be sure to add variety of balanced heights, layered textures + groupings of objects. Try grouping books by size + color + stacking books both vertically + horizontally. Leaning art or picture frames behind or in front of stacked books adds interest + personality. Layering in beautiful objects like unique sculptures, vases or other art breaks up the straight, repetitive lines + adds texture. 3 - Create visual triangles! Creating visual triangles is a well known designer technique that helps keep the eye moving + creates a cohesive look. 4 - Something GREEN! Whether real or faux, greenery goes a long way in bringing some life to your shelves. 5 - Last but not least, have FUN! Don’t overthink your styling too much.
