This is ✨ Stellar Spectra ✨ Chosen as winner of the Ice Breakers International Design Competition. Created with my best friend and collaborator @Diogrammed. On view as part of #TOiceBreakers from January 19, 2019 until February 24, 2019 near HTO Park. #artservedcold Which pavilion do you like better? Warm or ❄️ Cool? #StellarSpectra is a place of light, the signal from the stars split into two sculptural columns of #starlight rooms: warm and cool light houses by the water. As the #sun, our closest #star, shines from above, it refracts through the filters. Together, the shafts create a spectrum of light. The cascade of colours spreads throughout the space and onto the stargazers. The beams travel billions of kilometres only to land here. Composed of every colour. The white glow hides its secrets. What is #light made of? The #spectrograph separates the starlight, laying out each frequency: cool to warm. The dark bands of the #spectrum hold the key. What are #stars made of? Enter the beams. Enter the light. Enter the stars. #Astronomers use the stellar spectrum to deduce the composition of a star. As light travels through its stellar atmosphere, different wavelengths are absorbed by specific atomic particles. The darker bands in the light that reaches us provide an indication of the stellar composition.
