Gatorade Lake..✨

No, it’s not photoshop, the water is actually that blue! This happens in a few lakes around New Zealand, all fed by active glaciers. The glaciers grind and crush the rock along the valley floor to create “glacial flour,” which then gets carried down into the lakes. Since these particles are so fine, they stay suspended in the water column instead of sinking to the bottom. When the sunlight hits, the glacial flour absorbs the purples and indigos, the water absorbs the reds, oranges and yellows, and that leaves the blues and greens to be scattered back to our eyes. Hence we are left with this incredible color! Pretty amazing.

How epic is our highest mountain!...@weewaaah
Me and my fraaands waited for the sun to set on this spot. Still takes my breath away. Mt Cook is still my favorite part of New Zealand. Love ya longtime!

What are your reasons for not taking risks?
For me, I went through a period of holding back in life and playing it safe. For a long time, I was dealing with the aftermath of trauma, and it was a protective reflex to make sure I couldn't get *more* hurt.
But there came a time where this protective habit no longer served me.
Holding back can stop you from doing things that bring you joy.
For me?
That's meant taking less creative risks, going on fewer adventures or not trying that new scary thing.
After spending my weekend journalling (YES JOURNALLING MY FRIENDS!), I've realized this doesn't serve me anymore.
Holding back, playing it safe has started to hurt me
So I'm stepping UP and stepping OUT
Leaping into all that is scary ✨
Opening myself up for hurt, rejection, and failure (because I now know I can handle it)
Are you holding back in life to “protect” yourself? Or have you gone through this in the past?
P.S. Want to watch me try to explain this via video? Hop onto my IG stories to hear my awkward words (turns out I explain things better via the written word...) ALSO you get to see my bad hair day... which is me every day
Ice cold Nothing shocks your body more than standing in ice cold water as a way to get relief for tired muscles. I waded out into the lake up to my knees when I arrived at Lake Mackenzie on the Routeburn Track, trying to ease the terrible knee pain that had come on during the last downhill slog to the hut. Needless to say I could only last less than a minute before the extreme cold got to the sensitive nerves in my feet and I had to hobble out again and wait for it to pass. I’m not even sure if it actually helped as the next 2 days of hiking were equally painful but at least I felt like I’d tried something! Lake Mackenzie is one place I really feel like I have unfinished business with as the views were hidden in rolling mist and rain for our overnight stay but it is a terribly beautiful setting and one that’s not easy to get to unless you hike in and stay overnight so I’m super stoked to have this memory of it, pain and all!

Yes it's true, New Zealand is home to more sheep than people - about 7 to 1....down from 20 to 1. Anyone that knows me knows how much I adore animals! After being around them I feel super relaxed, this moment was no exception. I'd love to know what your favourite animal is? I can't choose between a shark or a stingray .

A dreamy morning staring at the most symmetrical volcano I've ever seen this place is very popular and I've seen so many photos of it but it was still amazing to see in person. @lksmvn and I camped in this area before we made our way to the South Island and it was the first time I photographed the milkyway in the southern hemisphere. After a nice brisk night under the stars this was the perfect way to start our morning.
On another note, today was the first morning our van was completely covered in frost when we woke up. Soooo cold! After photographing sunrise this morning my toes and fingers wanted to fall off... Only a couple more weeks till we start work at a lodge where it'll be nice and warm thank goodness.
