Isn’t it funny how you can look at hundreds of photographs of a place, but still be absolutely blown away when you finally get to see it for yourself. ✨ . And this was the case right here for James and me. We had seen so many beautiful photos of Mt Taranaki reflecting in the tarns, but when we arrived and saw the landscape with our own eyes, we actually felt quite overwhelmed. We realised it was in fact beautiful beyond a photograph. ♥️♥️ . It goes without saying that this wee spot was one of our absolute faves in NZ and we got so many questions on it we decided to do up a wee blog! (Link is in our bio). . A seriously fun climb to one of Fiordlands most magnificent views. 1000m near vertical walls descending to the sea bellow had us clinging on pretty tightly.

Lake Rotoiti - We had some problems with different streets in Newzealand and it was necessary to change our planned route. The Nelson Lakes with the lake Rotoiti was normally not part of our trip. It was such a stunning experience with the sunset and sunrise at this beautiful place. If I had the chance to go back to the south island of Newzealand, I will definitely go back to the Nelson Lakes enjoying the view of the mountains and the beauty of nature. If I'm honest, the hike up to this hut is where I nearly cried and gave up .⁣ What the photos don't show is my legs that turned to jelly + my hangry face + our sweaty backs... All just to get to this point.⁣ .⁣ This photo was taken at Mueller Hut, one of Mt Cook / Aoraki National Park's most difficult hikes. ⁣ .⁣ The track to Mueller Hut is 5.2 km (3.2 miles) but it's not the distance that's the hard part... It's the elevation gain! Over that seemingly short distance, the elevation is 1050 m (3444 feet) which makes it a TOUGHHH hike (especially if you’re carrying up supplies to stay at the hut!) .⁣ It's listed as advanced - and honestly, guys when a hike is labeled difficult in NZ they really mean difficult!⁣ .⁣ ‍♀️But despite the near tears + thoughts of heading back down (psst this was only 1 hr into the hike!!) I'm so glad we continued... We got to watch the sunset from this spot (and the sunrise too). (Psst: Check out my stories if you want to see more!!) . Words cannot express how magical it was to experience Aoraki/ Mt Cook from this point ⁣✨ . Would you ever do a hike like this? Why or why not?
