Peas develop from the base of the pod, up. That means I picked this pod a couple of days too early.
To help you work out when to harvest your peas, take note of the sowing date. Most seed packets will tell you how many days it will take for the produce to mature. If you have the date at hand, you'll always know what day to begin your harvest. - 60-70 days in the case of shelling peas

Quick Tip ✔
You can start your own ginger and turmeric plants by doing the old toothpick trick on a windowsill or by leaving them in a dark place like a cupboard for the duration of winter.
Once the rhizomes have shoots in early Spring, they can be planted into your garden, in full sun.

Turn plastic containers into mini hothouse to protect tender seedlings from the cold night air and damaging frosts in winter.
Puncture holes in the base to allow for drainage and fill with your regular seed raising mixture to sow seeds directly into them.
Close your mini hothouses up at night to keep your seedlings snug and warm but be sure to remember to open them in the morning to allow your plants to breath and to avoid overheating them during the day.
Mini hothouses can even be kept on a sunny windowsill inside the house.
When your seedlings are too big to fit under the closed lid, plant them out.
You can use any plastic container to create a mini hothouse, soft drink bottles cut in half will do the same job as the boxes with lids. (Pic 2)
You're limited only by your imagination and access to recycle bins so why not get creative and make your own mini hothouses this weekend.

Quick Tip ✔
When your bulbs have finished flowering, it's important to keep feeding them and allow the leaves to die back before trimming them or pulling them up. This is because the bulbs are actually developing next year's flowers now and they literally eat their own leaves to gather extra nutrients.
So if they start to get in your way or look messy, just plait them! You'll still ba able to feed and water them and any they won't get in the way of any small seedlings that are trying to come up.

Quick Tip ✔
Keep your Strawberries in a sheer jewellery bag to protect them from the mouths of hungry garden critters. Be sure to keep them exposed to the sun so they can ripen up and remove the ripe strawberries from the bag as soon as they're ready to eat.
