Starting to test drive this one with a gin tonic (started with a Fever-Tree Indian tonic) this is a gin to enjoy during the summer I would say.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ The gin is a London Dry distilled product, using juniper, angelica root, hibiscus, lavender, elderflower, and very prominent the kaffir lime leaves. These leaves bring a citrusy but floral freshness at the same time. This wine is definitely something special! . So, let me introduce you to Nalle Winery-Healdsburg, California.. . Owned and operated by Lee and Doug Nalle with their son, Andrew, as winemaker, Nalle Winery rests on land that’s been in Lee’s family, the Henderlongs, since 1927. At Nalle, small lots of old vine, dry-farmed, and estate wines including Zinfandel, Cabernet, and Pinot Noir are produced in the above-ground-cave cellar, kept cool year-round by a living roof of rosemary. . . Zinfandel is a staple of Dry Creek, yet the winemaking of Zinfandel at Nalle tends to lean a bit towards the French, especially when it comes to alcohol. Overall, you’re bound to find at least a 1 to 2% lower amount of alcohol in their wines compared to what is traditionally considered the norm in the valley. When Nalle started their label in 1984, the intent was to produce a Zin that expressed the intrinsic "zinberry" fruit and elegance of the Dry Creek Valley appellation. The intent remains the same. Known primarily for Zinfandel, their wines showcase the elegantly refined side of the varietal by bringing its beautiful zinberry characteristics and natural acidity to the forefront. The final result is a more focused yet seductive expression of Zinfandel that will make you think differently about the varietal. While most who drink Nalle wines prefer them young, a properly cellared Nalle Zinfandel can be delicious beyond ten years.. . This 2016 Dry Creek Valley is @ Flagship Zinfandel and is about as “Zinberry” as it gets. With sensational flavors of mixed Blackberry and Blueberry jam with Sage and Vanilla flavors all dissolving into a brilliant finish that seems to go on forever. Working distilleries on Islay that is, as Ardnahoe officially opens its doors. • The opening of a Scotch whisky distillery is always an event, but there’s something particularly special about a new one on Islay. Today Ardnahoe, the first new distillery on the island since 2005, was officially opened by the Rt Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen. Stewart Laing, managing director of Hunter Laing, the family-owned company which has invested £12m in the project, commented: “Since working as a teenager at Bruichladdich Distillery over 50 years ago, I have had a huge affinity with Islay and its malt whiskies. When we decided to build our own distillery, there was only one possible location. We have built a great team to manage the distillery and run the visitor centre and in a few years’ time we will be able to drink a great whisky in the classic Islay style, staying true to the island’s heritage with a heavily peated malt.” The spirit should be full of character as it will be made using wooden washbacks, Scottish-made lamp glass stills and worm tub condensers (the only distillery on the island to use them), and it will be aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The great master distiller Jim McEwan advised on the project. With such pedigree, it’s no surprise that Hunter Laing has already pre-sold 400 casks of spirit.
