Because tooth fairies come in all colors, shapes, sizes and rock different hairstyles too.
I read and supported this book three years ago when it was initially published as a self-published book. Now it’s been picked up by a major publisher @macmillankidsbooks AND I hear it’s being co-produced as a film by Gabrielle Union @gabunion. Look at God! Find Talluluah the Tooth Fairy CEO at your local bookstore or wherever books are sold. #tallulahthetoothfairyceo @tamarapizzoli #representationmatters #diversitymatters

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR OCS I have so many, but the characters in my dystopian WIP can be defined as: wine uncle, scary mom friend, hungry pyromaniac, and tired activist. (Also the last slide of this post has a little surprise to bless your feed).
Today, we’re having a discussion about a necessary topic: diversity. Please be civil and respectful in the comments when leaving your own feedback
Here’s another must-buy book alert releasing September 2019: Just Ask by Sonia Sotomayor.
In Just Ask, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor celebrates the different abilities kids (and people of all ages) have. Using her own experience as a child who was diagnosed with diabetes, Justice Sotomayor writes about children with all sorts of challenges--and looks at the special powers those kids have as well. As the kids work together to build a community garden, asking questions of each other along the way, this book encourages readers to do the same: When we come across someone who is different from us but we're not sure why, all we have to do is Just Ask.
Publishes September 3, 2019. Ages 4-8. #representationmatters #diversitymatters #soniasotomayor
Many fairy tales depict a world of predominantly blonde heroines with twinkling blue eyes and a fair complexion. This is problematic and an unrealistic view of the world we live in today.
Seeing oneself is an affirming moment, but for little girls of color, this mirror image is as rare as Cinderella's glass slipper fitting properly. We all crave representation and deserve access to reflections of ourselves, and that is why I'm excited by this book: Not Quite Snow White by Ashley Franklin @ashleyfranklinwrites illustrated by Ebony Glenn @artsyebby.
When little Tameika auditions for the role of Snow White, she overhears kids saying she’s “too chubby” and making comments about her having brown skin. They whisper and giggle and stare at her which in turn causes Tameika to second guess her decision about playing the lead role.
I adore this book for so many reasons. It shows all marginalized kids that everything is possible. Tameika auditioning for the role of Snow White is powerful not only for readers of color, but for everyone, enabling us to see beyond the dominant images of White protagonists in childhood stories and fairy tales.
It is revolutionary that fairy tales and stories represent children of all colors. With her brown skin, and kinky hair, Tameika is the furthest from classic Disney @disney fantasies—but closest to my reality.
Hopefully all children (and adults) reading this book will realize that we can become our wishes and dreams, and that we're worthy of being seen despite what others may think or say.
I think this book is a winner! It has great read aloud appeal, beautiful illustrations that inspire, and messages about body positivity, acceptance, self-love, bravery, diversity and inclusion. Ages 4-8 and up. @harperkids. #notquitesnowwhite #representationmatters #diversitymatters #ownvoices

Who else is happy that @chloexhalle has been cast as Ariel for @disney's live action The Little Mermaid? I am beyond thrilled! Why? Because representation matters! For all the little girls who will get to see themselves up on the screen and be able to imagine themselves there. To know that the colour of their skin is normal, ok and beautiful. To believe that they can one day star in a movie too. To change the norm of what is seen on screens. I hear there is a hashtag notmyariel and I'm disgusted with that. It just shows how far we still need to go to tackle racism. We aren't even close, but I'm so glad @disney is thinking for themselves and care about better representation. Who is going to see this movie when it comes out? by @alicexz
Coming February 2020: ’Ohana Means Family.
Join the family, or ohana, as they farm taro for poi to prepare for a traditional luau celebration with a poetic text in the style of The House That Jack Built.
This is the land that's never been sold, where work the hands, so wise and old, that reach through the water, clear and cold, into the mud to pick the taro to make the poi for our ohana's luau.
Acclaimed illustrator and animator Kenard Pak's light-filled, dramatic illustrations pair exquisitely with Ilima Loomis' text to celebrate Hawaiian land and culture.
The backmatter includes a glossary of Hawaiian terms used, as well as an author's note. #ohana #ohanameansfamily @kenardpak #representationmatters
