Change can start with you! Meet Dustin Hochmuth, SERVICE Armenia 2017 & 2018 participant and leader of the Groceries for Gyumri initiative. Dustin and the SERVICE Armenia participants have put together and distributed over 100 food packs for families throughout Gyumri. Currently, more than 1,800 families still live in domiks scattered throughout Gyumri in extreme poverty. Many of them are unable to provide for their familys' needs including nutritious food, heat and electricity for their homes and other basic necessities. This summer, Dustin and the SERVICE Armenia participants will be putting together 50 grocery packets, each packet will cost $30 and will include basic staples including personal hygiene products, non-perishable food items such as rice, flour, sugar, salt, oil, and pasta. The packets will also include fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products and canned meats. Help a hungry family in need by using the link in our bio to donate today and read about Dustin's experience! “My name is Dustin Hochmuth and I launched Groceries for Gyumri as a project to raise money to assemble and distribute one hundred food packs to poor families in Gyumri, Armenia. I came up with the idea when, in 2017 as part of The Paros Foundation’s SERVICE Armenia 2017 program, Peter Abajian and Narine Panosian took me and a few other participants to see the living conditions of some of the residents of Gyumri. The apartment complex we were shown was in total deplorable condition and was literally falling apart, and the worst part was that ten families still live there. Later on that night at dinner, I asked Peter, “Is there anything more we can do to help these people?” SERVICE Armenia coordinator, Stephanie Nersesyan, has was planning on implementing a project, so together we ended up delivering ten packs of non-perishable items such as soap, pasta, and toilet paper to several families in the city. During the distribution, I met and spoke to the people living in these terrible conditions and got the opportunity to hear the families’ stories. After going on this excursion, it inspired me to come back to Armenia in 2018 and do a food drive project of my own on a larger scale.”

With the help of the Jack Youredjian Family Charitable Foundation and Shirak Kentron NGO for helping with the teardown and move in process, The Matevosyan Family can officially begin their new life in a comfortable, clean, and spacious new home. An important aspect of our process is that with each new home we give to a family, we ensure that their domik is torn down so the cycle of unlivable conditions is broken. Kevorg Matevosyan is currently a soldier guarding Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan. With less than 12 days left in his service, the Matevosyan family will be welcoming their father into a new home this coming week. With the help of Jack Youredjian and his family one more family in Gyumri will be able to live a comfortable life in a brand new home, totaling six so far during our trip. These amazing parents can now raise their three children in a warm and comfortable environment.

Today we are celebrating with the Galoyan Family - a new start in a new home and a happy birthday to son Narek! Thanks to an anonymous donor from California and the Shirak Kentron NGO for helping with the move and demolition, the Galoyans (Mom, Son & Grandma) will be able to enjoy a clean and safe living environment. Narek, has been attending our @debiarach Children's Center for the past three years, where he receives warm meals and education with his fellow peers. We hope to make a lasting difference in the lives of these families in Gyumri, and you can too! Although this family has moved in this project still needs $5,000 more for furniture, demolition, and paperwork costs to be completed.
