This is me giving birth on my knees at nearly 300 lbs! . . When I found out I was pregnant, I read online that I wouldn't be able to have a healthy pregnancy because of my size. My OB-GYN told me we'd see how things progressed. . . Everything shifted when I was five months pregnant and hired a doula who encouraged me to look into the midwifery model of care. . . I never could've imagined how switching to a midwife wouldn’t just impact the care I received but also the way I felt about my body. My midwife had more belief in my body's ability to have a healthy outcome than I did. . . At the age of 30, it was the first time a care provider had ever touched my body with compassion. . . During my birth, my midwife treated me with dignity. I never felt shamed. I was never on display. As I gave birth on my knees, with my doula providing relief with counterpressure on my lower back, I felt powerful! At that moment I not only became a mother but found a strength in my body I never knew existed. . . Today is International Day Of The Midwife, and May is World Doula Month. It's my birthday, so I can stop and smell the roses if I want to 30 was a wild year! My second son was born, and I also birthed a business and followed my passion of becoming a doula with @crocusdoula . My oldest son started Kindergarten, we made it to many weddings, and travelled a bit. I left some projects behind, and started new ones while meeting some amazing new people. All in all, I can't complain one bit. Here's to 31 being an even bigger and brighter adventure!

Aniversário de parir. Acordei bem cedo hoje. É que minha filha faz 11 anos. Fechei os olhos e pensei tanto nela. Tanto tanto amor. Mas veio também um pensamento novo. Pensei em mim. No parto. E me enxerguei como se estivesse me vendo de fora, me assistindo. Nunca tinha me permitido pensar em mim no aniversário da minha filha. Tem uma anulação de si que está intimamente ligada à maternidade que é uma violência instituída e aceita. Ouso dizer que estimulada. Por que foi preciso minha filha ter 11 anos e já não estar mais tão precisada de mim para que eu me lembrasse que hoje faz aniversário o parto. E um parto, amigas e amigos, é um portal. Parir foi a coisa mais sobrenatural e, ao mesmo tempo, visceral que eu já fiz em toda vida. Pari feito bicho e feito fada. É estranho. Pari feito sangue e sonho. Feito filha e mãe. Pari minha filha e minha bisavó. Pari há 11 anos e hoje de novo e sempre. Ainda estou parindo. Com órgãos em terremotos de ajeitar placas desse continente eu. Onde fiquei depois que pari? Virei fumaça e coração. Ao mesmo tempo. Vou celebrar aniversário de parto porque é viver ao mesmo tempo o que a gente sempre aprendeu que era ou aquilo ou aquilo outro. Se víscera ou alma. Não. Tem alma que circula artéria nas vísceras de nascer. Descobri um pensar útero. Descobri um calcular ossos. Descobri uma bússola grito. Meu corpo é engenheiro de passados e futuros.
