Xiao is coming up on 3 months at the shelter, and I just can't believe he has no interest. He is usually walking around excited, talking, wagging his tail, but he was different yesterday. He was lying down and didn't want to make eye contact. He didn't get up and didn't even wag his tail. Poor boy is breaking down because he's been there for so long. He is gorgeous and as sweet as can be. I hope this young boy finds a family in time. The shelter is full! Last post: I walk up to the shelter, I hear Xiao's cries first. There are a few petite pitties at the #downeyanimalcarecenter right now. Roxy looks quite small for being 9 months old. She was found as a stray on 2/26. She has a skin condition and was in the non-public buildings for awhile. She is now available for adoption and is very sweet and shy. I've met and worked with blind dogs and before you cry your eyes out, be amazed at the remarkable resiliency and abilities these dogs possess. They live their lives without missing a beat. Before we anthropomorphisize these pets with our sorrow you should be aware their ability to compensate for their lost sight is way beyond anything you can imagine. Once Annie walked the yard mentally mapping it she knew where everything was and did not bump into anything. She was easily able to follow us, find us and was super happy with our companionship. People who I know with sightless dogs tell me they can run and play like sighted animals and make extraordinary pets. Annie is 6 years old and has an entire life ahead of her as a special and exquisite companion pet.
