My father was a mechanic who supported us by spending the weekends fixing cars for the residents of Riverside . . As a young child I would often go with him to different neighborhoods and watch him work. I helped him by regularly handing him the wrong tool . . Sometimes people were not able to pay the entire amount and my father never demanded or returned for the payment. He never complained . . He developed relationships within the community and people trusted his work and his word . . I saw the countless hours he put in helping others. Their class or race NEVER mattered . . As a young child, I didn’t know at the time how much of an impact this would have in my own life . . Today AND everyday I am grateful for the example my father showed me.
