ᴍʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ ɪꜱ ꜱᴏ ꜰᴜʟʟ ꜱᴏ ʜᴏᴡ ᴄᴀɴ ɪᴛ ᴀʟꜱᴏ ꜰᴇᴇʟ ꜱᴏ ᴇᴍᴘᴛʏ? / Painted after Trans Pride Scotland the other week. It was so wonderful to be around so many other trans / non-binary / gnc people but I went on my own after work, after the march and most of the workshops, and everyone else was with partners, friends, or had made friends during the course of the day. I often go alone to events because I either don't know anyone that's interested or I'm too anxious to ask them, and it's good and I mostly end up seeing someone I vaguely know (Dundee is v small), but I often come away feeling like my heart is so full and empty at the same time. But! Even since then I'm getting better at building community! I went to Glasgow zine fest alone on Saturday and had so many nice conversations with the stallholders etc and I came away feeling actually fulfilled! And yesterday I went to a queer art exhibition opening in Dundee (The Queer Dot at DJCAD, go check it out!) and even though I only went with one friend, there were so many people I knew there! And most of them I knew through going to other events previously! And they introduced me to their friends! I need to remember that I'm still pretty new to this city, to being (somewhat) confident in my identity, and to making friends and socialising in general! I need to stop being so hard on myself, and hey, no one really knows how to socialise or make friends or date anyway and most people welcome you making the first move. ♥

Bruce Shaw is our current exhibiting artist at Dundee Meadow Mill Project Space. ‘Skye Lines’ is a selection of work which resulted from Bruce’s Wasps residency at the Admirals House in Skye. Bruce’s work stems from a fascination with attempting to map the narrative of a landscape. His practice combines printmaking (etching, lithography, lino-cut), drawing and painting. Bruce will be holding an Artists Talk where he will be discussing his work this Friday 22nd March in the gallery space from 1-2pm and the exhibition continues through the weekend on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th March.
