Obsessed with Taqwa and Moaed’s wedding last Sunday. It was my first time documenting a Sudanese wedding and I am so in love with their culture. Their wedding had three parts, the Nikah ceremony, the reception and the Jirtik Ceremony! I’ll try to post pictures of these in the future. Can’t believe we’re not even halfway through our wedding season yet! We have photographed some incredible weddings already, and have so many sweet couples ahead! If you could give ONE piece advice to our TLJ couples with upcoming weddings, what would it be? Tell my brides below! ............ My piece of advice is: don’t stress about things out of your control! Just ENJOY your wedding day to the fullest! If it rains, embrace it. If your cake starts leaning in the heat, make a Pisa joke. If a bridesmaid has to be sewn into her dress - tell her you’ll return the favor at her wedding. Just ENJOY your day, it goes by too fast!!!

Taqwa needs to be the model for my styled sessions one day. Why does she have to live far though (Maryland)! She is just such a gorgeous bride! . . . Swipe to see the Sudanese Jirtik Ceremony and why I’m so in love with their culture :) First, the aunts and Taqwa’s mom puts on jewelry from head to toe, and apply sandalwood perfume. At the ceremony, the mothers and grandmothers apply spices to the heads of the newlyweds. They then spit milk to each other to represent protection and commitment. A big necklace was worn to the newlyweds to represent unity. The bride and groom also spray perfumes and spread sweets to the guest. What an amazing cultural wedding with so much laughter and happiness and can’t be thankful enough to be the one documenting your wedding Taqwa and Moaed! :) . . Half awake over here thanks to a little teething friend of mine so I’ll just let Alex’s impeccable dress and style do the talking.

Here’s the thing about reaching 1k... I’m thrilled because it means my work has the potential to be seen by more people. But no matter what we always feel like it’s not enough. When I had 500 followers I looked to people with 1000 and wished I was as good as them. Now I have 1k and I look at people with 10k, wishing I was as good as them. And I am sure if I ever get to 10k I will hope for 30k. ⠀ ⠀ It’s an ongoing symptom that our society has put into our heads. ⠀ ⠀ There are people with far less followers than me that are more talented. And there are people with more followers that are less experienced. ⠀ ⠀ So basically this rant is just to say... followers don’t matter. We know that they don’t make any difference in our life. We all know that it really doesn’t matter. My day to day life didn’t change when that number changed to 4 digits. ⠀ ⠀ But I am still excited to have 1000! I am still so grateful that 1000 humans think my work is good enough that they want to see more. ⠀ ⠀ But let’s all keep in mind... to some people 1000 is a lot, to some people 200 is a lot, to some 50k is not a lot. We all start somewhere and we will all end somewhere. It’s nice to have people care but seriously the number on your page really truly does not matter. This is something I need to remind myself, often. Because my job makes it really easy to compare myself to others. In the end the quality of my work and doing my best to be a good human are what matter. ⠀ ⠀ Let’s all put the same effort into making a difference and treating others kindly as we do into our social media accounts. Thank you for 1k y’all, it does mean a lot to me even if I am trying not to let it ⠀
