This Southwestern-styled backpack and handbag from @mynikoineko are my new favorite wardrobe staples. They are incredibly luxurious and chic, and I can see them withstanding seasons for years to come. The best part though — these are high quality bags made from vegan leather; they’re animal free and made from recyclable materials whenever possible. They believe in the ability to ‘wear your beliefs,’ and I love their commitment to the #fashionrevolution. I love that they partner with causes that share their values of conservation and animal welfare. Wear your spirit, wear your beliefs. #gifted #nikoineko #sustainablefashion #wearyourbeliefs
Hey you! Yeah you! You wear clothes! Unless you are reading this naked or rather, spend all of your time naked ... please read on.
Yesterday marked the end of ‘Fashion Revolution Week’; a week meant to highlight, campaign and take action towards demanding greater transparency in fashion production and supply chain. It encourages people to be more conscious in their purchasing habits and ultimately ask the question “who made my clothes?” Have you asked yourself this recently? Look at yourself right now... do you know who made your clothes? And where they were made? The majority of people on this planet have no idea who produced the items that clothe their bodies, but what’s even worse is that the majority of the clothing on this planet, has been made by people who have perhaps been treated unfairly, and or in poor conditions. And to top it all off... most of it, isn’t made to last. Fast fashion is built on style trending and with 21st century trends changing every 20 seconds, the majority of clothing produced today, ends up in landfill within a year! According to remake.world “The U.S. alone sends about 21 billion pounds of textile waste to landfills every year. And sadly, only 10-15% of donated clothing actually ends up in the secondhand market.” This is bonkers!!!! Fast fashion is literally suffocating our planet and the earth and our oceans can not and will not keep up. Bottom line the current fashion industry is not sustainable and unless we each take a stand as individuals to make better purchasing choices, clothing production will not slow down! And why... because it is too profitable!!!
So what can be done? I have said this before but why not say it again ☺️... It is not about being perfect! It is better to see thousands of people making an effort to do better than to see a handful of people being perfectionists. This rant is not meant to have you trawling through your closets to throw away all the fast fashion pieces which line your drawers (as this would be counter productive and very bad for the environment). What I do propose however, is slowing down! Look at what you already have and take care of it! TEXT CONTINUED IN COMMENTS
NURDLES
Anyone know what these little bastards are?
TAG a friend who needs to know, HELP spread the message and SHARE this
Nurdles are small plastic pellets about the size of a lentil. Countless billion are used each year to make nearly all our plastic products but many end up washing up on our shores.Unlike large pieces of plastic marine litter, nurdles are so small that they go largely unnoticed. However scientists are becoming increasingly concerned about their effect on our delicate marine ecosystem. Nurdles attract and concentrate background pollutants like DDT and PCBs to highly toxic levels. Nurdles do not go away – like other plastic over time they just fragment into smaller and smaller plastic particles. Like other plastics nurdles are mistaken for prey by many marine animals and
seabirds and enter the food chain
