Not being perfect is the beauty of life. I wish I understood this in my 20's when I unconsciously tried so hard to be perfect. I'm sure many of you can relate. It doesn't work and it's quite exhausting. . Letting go and simply being yourself is the best medicine. . Tap the link in our bio @TheHealthyApple to read my article Worthiness + Not-Enoughness to help you dive into this a bit more and go deeper with yourself. . Also, all the info for my upcoming retreat in Santa Cruz, California in August is in our #linkinbio as well. . . . . #perfection #perfect #choices #life #me #inspiration #wellbeing #meditation #motivation #mind #yourself #faults #heart #conflictmanagement #emotionalresilience #resilience #fear #imperfection #beyonce #wellness

Are you in need of emotional first aid? ‍⚕️⛑ ▫️ When you cut your finger while chopping vegetables, do you continue to bleed on the cutting board? Of course not! You run your finger under cold water and then apply a bandaid. ▫️ Why don't we treat our mental health with the same care? After all, emotional injuries can be just as painful as physical injuries. And if we don't address our emotional wounds, they can fester and compound. When we're struggling, the treatment is emotional first aid. ▫️ What does emotional first aid look like? It focuses on paying attention to your mental health and observing how you tend to deal with stressful, difficult, or emotionally painful situations. Notice whether your go-to response is effective at helping you heal. If it's not, try various techniques until you identify what works for you. Here are some ideas: ▫️ Talk with someone you trust who is also a good listener (such as a therapist or friend). ▫️ Exercise, even for just 5 minutes. For example, walk around the neighborhood or do some slow stretching. ▫️ Soothe yourself with a hot bath, snuggling under a soft blanket, or drinking a hot beverage. ▫️ Do something kind for someone else, even if it's as simple as holding open a door or picking up something they dropped. ▫️ Write down your thoughts in a journal or on scraps of paper that you throw away or burn (in a safe, controlled environment). ▫️ Listen to soothing music or YouTube videos such as nature soundscapes, guided meditations, or ASMR videos. ▫️ Do something creative such as writing, drawing, painting, knitting, scrapbooking. ▫️ Call a "warm line." This is a peer support help line for people struggling with mental health concerns but who are not necessarily in crisis. Calls are answered by specially-trained volunteers who have lived experience with mental health challenges and can provide emotional support, comfort, and information. ▫️ When you experience an emotional wound, treat yourself gently and with compassion. As Brene Brown also says: "What we don't need in the midst of struggle is shame for being human." ▫️

People show red flags/warning signs that they are not right for us. If the goal is to build close, caring, and reciprocal relationships, conflict along the way is inevitable. There can be no intimacy without confrontation. By ‘confrontation’ I mean noticing and responding to the other-—being able to address the areas in your relationship that you are struggling with even when (especially when) they lead you into deeper intensity. ... When two people get together, two separate stories converge. We must operate with an awareness of our triggers and sensitivities in relationships in order to create the kind of atmosphere that brings out curiosity, emotional flexibility, and wonder in each other. ... In session, I often ask clients how conflict was dealt with when growing up? The responses are as varied as the individuals I meet with—someone might share “my family fought like cats and dogs, never a dull moment: if we didn't like something someone said, we shared it openly!” or “sometimes we yelled or name-called in order to get our point across.” Other times, conflict may have lived below the surface: it was underlying and not evident until there was an occasional “explosion” —-then and only then did you know for sure that someone was upset. ... Showing emotion is a way to inform others that we care—we care about the relationship, we care about how that person perceives us, we want to improve things…The problem is that sometimes we don't communicate about our experience in a way the other person can hear. As a result, we don't get the response we want. When we care, it means we’re invested. But it can be difficult to show care and empathy if we aren't used to operating in that way. It’s easy to fall into unproductive patterns despite our best efforts. ... When we are triggered, it can be difficult to break the cycle (“the more she does x, I do y”), but it is definitely possible. These patterns are often influenced by fears or a lack of trust which can cause us to behave in ways that are not serving the relationship in positive ways. Once we move through the fears and create safety, we can become more expansive in our ability to relate. #modernmft

Let’s Get REAL about our SELF LOVE The easiest way to cultivate more of something is to take the focus from lack to focus on what you already have so you can multiply it. This what changed the game for me, this change of perspective and daily practice of reflection - focusing on the things I am doing rather than gave me more: Appreciation for myself Acknowledgement of the work I am doing Eliminated any guilt and shame So loves, try this. At the end of your day ✍️write down the things you did for your self i.e doing my morning ritual, connecting with my friend, drinking a gallon of water etc

Mental health/wellness is not an end goal but a practice. - We hear so often a message that supports the idea that once we reach a certain “place” we’ll be worthy or good or happy... we rely on our performance to give us permission to be okay with ourselves. What if we gave ourselves compassion instead? Compassion on the days that all our practices didn’t work and we had a panic attack anyway, compassion on the days that happened multiple times... and compassion when we were able to rely on our resources to help us feel a whole lot better... - The ebs and flow of life is all good information. “So I didn’t do so well today... what can I learn from it or what is this experience trying to tell me?” Or “wow, I was really able to tune into my body today, what made the difference this time?” - So it’s okay if you’re feeling up and down and don’t know where to start with a mental wellness practice, because that’s exactly what it is- something that takes practice, trial and error. Ask for support as you approach this part of your life. Be curious and be compassionate. You’ll be okay. #andreaobessa #abetterway @s.savilephotography
