A workshop for those with babies/ toddlers aged 6 months+ who would like to carry their babies on their backs. You’ll learn the principles of baby carrying safety, comfort and positioning, so you can confidently carry your baby on your back in whatever sling you choose to use. You’ll learn how to get your baby safely onto your back, and down again, using a range of techniques. We will mostly be using buckled carries, so please let us know in advance if you’d particularly like to try back carrying with another type of sling. The Joy of Communication This week is #europeanbabywearingweek A week celebrating all things babywearing. With lots of companies doing giveaways, offers and more. Each day has a theme and todays is communication. Many anecdotally share that children who have been carried have great speech, but what does the evidence tell us? Well a study in 2008 showed that interactions double when a child faces the parent in a buggy. Interactions are absolutely key for language development! The more interactions they have the more it builds their language. It seems obvious that when carrying our baby we interact more simply because they are closer to us, we talk about what’s going on around us, others engage more when a child is at the same height. Sadly this has not been directly studied yet (that I could find!) Yet it makes so much sense, as does so many things about carrying our children. A hip carry is great for allowing interactions with the world and you maintaining eye contact which is important for communication.
