A personal message today as I’ve been following the story of Beth French who claimed that positive thinking and drawing up a bucket list helped her to overcome ME, in the media’s coverage of her attempted Oceans7 swim challenge . Since then she has attempted to backtrack online saying “I still have ME and champion hope for those still struggling” yet on her website she says “Recovering from ME at such an early age was life changing and liberating”. ‍♀️ I think Beth has probably been a bit naive and grabbed at the opportunity to better both her own and her autistic son’s life, but personally I find Action For ME’s involvement in championing this false narrative very damaging to those of us it claims to represent. How soon before people point to her being able to swim channels as an example of what a person with ME should be able to do?
