Start them young they said. I did. Even before I had them! I'm a book worm to the point that I need to not pick up a book because I forget I have a life outside of it till I finish reading it. My friends often ask me how I get my kids interested in things like reading or choosing healthier foods (they dont always,especially when they see my family,they act like deprived children). Anyways,as a mom of 4 I'm qualified enough to tell you this: they will eventually enjoy what you enjoy. If they see you lost in a book,they will find the joy of reading too. If they see you relishing a broccoli, I can almost guarantee, they will like it too. Dont munch on candies and expect the kids to pick a cucumber. Besides that, at the risk of sounding like gyaan (boring advice), may I tell you, dont instruct them directly to do things. Just beautifully manipulate,something like learning through play. Example, dont tell them- eat fruits. Read this book. Never worked with my strong headed mules(they get these charming qualities from their dad). I leave around fruits and approved options so they can graze. I have books of several genres. And I say NO to screen time during the week. It's as simple as that.I do the desi thing and tell them even if you do a handstand my answer is NO. Stick to your ground,you'll be amazed at the creativity of a bored child. Allow them to get bored and indulge in pretend play. Let them get on your nerves but dont reach for that screen (says the mum who has 2 iPads,1 tab,1 PS4 and 1 laptop but doesn't give it to the kids except on weekends). But it's worked. And above all, cut yourself some slack .There is no right or wrong way. Have a happy hump day.
