Wow! Have you ever followed someone you admire and then one day you get to meet them, connect, and play? That happened to me today!! Woot woot! We hosted @yoga_girl and 30 of her yoga retreat students from @envisionfestival at one of our Tree nurseries today! The group participated with us for SEVA service as part of their journey! The air was so full of tree love as we mixed soil and filled bags to transplant baby trees we pulled out from our germination beds! Everyone helped clean and prepare guapinol seeds and some of us loved the yummy stinky superfood powder! We made a whole new batch of bokosha compost for the next group coming in a few weeks! After placing the newly transplanted babies under the green tent and watering them, we planted seeds with our intentions! We worked up a good appetite and shared a yummy typical Costa Rican lunch all together in our cozy shipping container space and the day flew by! We got so much done! And lots of people sponsored trees! Thank you thank you thank you! I wish I had more pictures but alas I was so busy talking and having fun... see our story posted! Seeing everyone respond to the work never ceases to encourage me! It feels like more and more people get “it” and want to do more to offset their carbon footprints in the most long term and socially empowering and gender inclusive way possible. Connecting with such a like minded and kind human like @yoga_girl really is a sign of the times! Thanks for being such a compassionate leader Rachel and choosing to give back with us in such a meaningful way both to the natural world and to communities looking for alternatives to poverty and deforestation! DJARDUK RED APPLE • Did you know that the Maningrida region is one of the most multilingual places on earth? Many people speak several of our 12 languages, inherited through both their mother’s and father’s sides of the family. This is why we have so many names for each of our bush foods. Nathaniel: When we were little, you know, we used to see this kind - red apple - and we’d say “ah, Djarduk!” When we’re hungry, we say “Djarduk!” in our language (Rembarrnga), from Kune language. We share that name. Leila: in my language (Gurr-Goni) I call this Mut-gumamirrtjiyi. When we see it fruiting, this Syzigium (it’s Latin name), we go and collect all the bush food and eat them.
