Weight lifting VS bodyweight training? Well, I’ve just finished 4 MONTHS WITHOUT lifting any weights (pic on the right), and it’s been an interesting challenge! The physiques don’t look that different, which shows how beneficial and effective bodyweight training is. But then again, maybe I’ve just been maintaining the results that I’ve built with a decade of bodybuilding? Would the results be different if I had been a complete beginner? Yes. So there is clearly lots to think about. I just posted a YouTube video on my channel explaining alllll of this so get comfy, plug in your earphones and go watch it. I’ve always loved bodyweight training, for so many reasons, and this challenge has highlighted them again for me. TIME SAVER! Quicker workouts, can do at home, no travel. MONEY SAVER! TRAINING EXPERIMENT! 3 month bodyweight training ONLY! WHAT!? It is now officially 2 weeks since lifting ANY weights! No dumbbells, no barbells, not even a medicine ball or a cable machine! Some of you might have noticed with recent posts and stories that I haven’t lifted weights...? This experiment is ofcourse for myself, but I also want to put myself out there in these kind of things to feed back some real information for you! In recent years I have enjoyed a whole mix of training, from functional weight lifting, circuits, isolation with bodybuilding and ofcourse lots of bodyweight. I love them all and their various benefits! I feel like I’ve never fully excelled in bodyweight training and have only nailed the basics, but I have always wanted to be great at calisthenics, gymnastics and everything just using my body. I know already that this type of training is going to build a foundational strength like I’ve never had, because although I’ve had a sixpack, my core has never been impressively strong... In this phase I want to dispel/ or prove many questions myself and others would have: Will I lose strength? Will I get smaller? Will my shape change? Will my sixpack be epic? Will I have skinny legs? Will my years of weightlifting give me an advantage in maintaining muscle? Will the strength I build actually help my lifts in the future such as deadlifts and squats? Will I lose or gain body fat? Will I enjoy it or get bored? Will I lose weight? Will I achieve the physique I’m looking without lifting a single weight? Will be less or more injured? Will I recover quicker? I found that when I completed my #CrockFit #GymFit1 plan, I was a great source of motivation for the people around the world following that plan, so I would like to support the thousands of you that have/are doing my #HomeFit plans too, by doing these workouts, and showing everyone what is possible to achieve with your on body!! It doesn’t matter what day it is, for me, daily exercise is like my daily dose of ‘feel good’. This video is a serious abs burner! It works like a drop set, where you do the same exercise but just reduce the weight each set. In this instance, it’s a V-sit. So do 10 reps of the full version, then without resting to 10 reps of the alternating leg version, then do 10 reps of the alternating knee version. Rest at the end and do 3 overall round. You’ll be crying at the end... in a good way Who’s training tomorrow? There’s no right or wrong answer. Just do you. But there’s no way I’m gonna miss my sweaty feel good #HomeFit session in the morning! But that’s me!... The warmth & sun is doing me wonders my knee injury is gone, but now my unconditioned legs have to drag me around 26.2 miles on Sunday Anyway as soon as I’ve recovered from the marathon, I’m going to start following my #GymFit1 programme again! A bodybuilding style of training has always been one of my favourite types of training. It is what I first started with 10 years ago, it is what built my physique, enabling me to somewhat maintain muscle quite well now even without lifting everyday and doing bodyweight training etc. My #GymFit1 programme was the very first plan within #CrockFit and was actually originally called ‘The #CrockFit Cover Model Body Programme’. This is because when I got my first fitness magazine cover, people asked me how to achieve a fitness model body... so I wrote my training into book for all of you!
