Transformation of mind + body I haven’t done a #transformationthursday post in so long and I want to start sharing them more to compliment my tutorials I do. The intention behind this post and ones to follow will be to highlight the mistakes i made starting out in yoga in 2015 and what I’ve learnt through my personal yoga journey and through becoming a teacher over the past 3 years . I was drawn to yoga for 3 main reasons 1. I had injured my knee twice and my achillies tendon through the way I was exercising 2. I could do it at home and not join a gym 3. I knew I was bendy and stretchy so thought I’d be good at it However due to multiple injuries through yoga and then gaining knowledge + understanding on my teacher training about WHY I was so mobile + WHY bending + stretching caused me so much pain after, I know now that bending the body into cool shapes isn’t necessarily good for it at all Hyper mobility is spectrum disorder that affects ligaments and collegan in the body and even links to anxiety and digestive disorders . Sometimes yoga can feel like it glorifies the flexibility of a body especially when you start out. I think this is why I used to practice stretching and bending so much if I’m honest . I noticed that the more I practiced this way the more my hips ached, my pelvis felt numb, sciatica got worse and my shoulders popped . I hope that by highlighting and sharing teaching tips that you feel more confident in your own yoga journey if flexibility isn’t your strong point; and if you’re hyper mobile like myself you can find ways to still practice your yoga but safely and without causing your body pain . Spring travel continues! I’m enroute to California later this morning ...⁣ ⁣ I keep thinking when I get back maybe all the snow will be melted⁣ I’ll let you know monday ⁣ ⁣ Travels aside, it’s Friday ⁣ Of course that makes it #TriYogaSchool Day!⁣ ⁣ For the month of APRIL our focus is on Hamstring Stretching & for our first week we work with Wide Leg Forward Fold or more specifically : Prasarita Paddotanasana D⁣ ⁣ ♾ PP-D has the added benefit of the grip (‘yogi toe hold’ it’s called) to give leverage for the forward fold⁣ ⁣ ♾ Remember! The depth of the fold is much less important than the integrity of the spine! ⁣ Are you working on deepening your backbends?⁣ ⁣ ‍♀️ME TOO!⁣ ⁣ If you have followed for me a minute you know that my body prefers to forward fold .. but I want BALANCE, so I work the backbends too⁣ And when I say WORK, I mean it!⁣ ⁣ I have posted lots about the strength work I do to enhance my backbends, but I also work on flexiblity. There are 2 main things I do everyday to deepen my backbend practice ::⁣ ⁣ ☝ Puppy Pose - I do variations of puppy pose for 2 minutes EVERYday & it has been a game changer! Thank you to @helenehopyoga for suggesting it years ago!!!⁣ ⁣ ✌ Wheel Work - pretty much every day I am rolling around on my wheel .. it feels amazing (like a deep tissue massage‍♀️) .. but it is also super effective at stretching my shoulders + upper back - ultra tight zones for me!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Later today I will post my progress pics in forearm wheel. Although I don’t practice this pose all that often, the daily work I do has resulted in pretty amazing progress! Oh & btw have I mentioned lately that I am 50 years YES you can still progress in your asana practice!⁣ ⁣ Watch for it!!!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #ceceyogatutorials

Sky Yoga Double Wrapped High Split 1. Stand in front of the hammock and place the fabric on the sacrum. Hold the fabric on the hips, bend the knees, lean back and open the legs wide for Star 2. Bend the knees, wrap the legs around the front with the fabric on the inside of the thighs and do a double foot lock. 3. Reach the hands above your feet and open the legs as you lift up. Core strong with energy in the legs for a smooth lift 4. Hold the fabric with both hands, lift up the body with the arms and bring the legs together so the fabric slides high on the thighs 5. Hold the fabric and lean back as you open the legs wide. Momentum is your friend so use it. Do another double foot lock by wrapping the legs around from the outside and hooking the toes. 6. Reach the hands above the feet, climb up and open the legs wide. and the upper body and core lift the head up to the ceiling. Open the legs for a double wrapped high split. If you have the balance remove one hand at a time. The arms can stay at the back or the front. Maintain the balance. Bringing Sky Yoga to you in your home with one tutorial per week.
