It's Time Warp Tuesday again and this week we're throwing it back to May 2018, when we reviewed Hats of Faith by Medeia Cohan-Petrolino & Sarah Walsh... ________________________________________________ I am proud to be raising Ivy in a culturally diverse environment and I think it’s really important to make sure she understands and respects different cultures from a young age. She finds hats fascinating (although hates wearing them herself!) and loves to see the beautifully bright head wraps which are abundant in South London. when I spotted this book - @hatsoffaith_ - I knew that she would love it. Page by page it shows you a cross-section of different head coverings which people wear as part of their faith. It covers the Turban, Hijab, Rasta Hat, Patka, Tichel, Chunni, Topi, Kippah and Head Wrap and explains which religions they belong to. The book is really simple and the illustrations are gorgeous. It’s a lovely introduction to religious diversity and a great way to open a conversation about a much bigger topic. It's Time Warp Tuesday again and this week we're throwing it back to August 2018, when we reviewed The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak... _________________________________________________ This book was recommended to me multiple times before I bought it and I have to admit I was sceptical. I genuinely didn’t think that Ivy would be able to sit through (let alone enjoy) a book without any pictures. I was very, very wrong! I don’t want to give too much away as I think that would spoil it a little, but the basic premise is that the person reading the book has to read every single word out loud, whether they want to or not. So be prepared to say some very silly things and to put your voice acting abilities to good use! Ivy loves this book and we both giggle from start to finish. It’s one of those books that she can’t get enough of so as soon as we get to the last page she directs me straight back to the beginning so we can start again and the voices and sounds get more and more ridiculous each time! Really clever and highly recommended – it’s unlike anything I’ve seen on the market before. The suggested reading age for this one is 3-6 but we’ve been laughing at it since Ivy was about two and a half. Buy it now: https://amzn.to/2vIrTmT Read more of our reviews at www.ivyslibrary.com

If you’re trying to teach your child about colours then the last thing you need is a black and white book, right? WRONG! This genius little board book, which was published in association with the Whitney Museum of American Art, is the best colour book we have encountered so far. Made up entirely of black and white pages, the book features clever cut outs which encourage kids to think differently. The first instruction is ‘Find Yellow’, accompanied by a cut out of a sun. You then need to find something yellow to either hold the book up to or place under the page to make the sun shine. This continues throughout the book, where you need to make a red cockerel, a green leaf, a blue cup, some purple grapes, a grey elephant, an orange, black sunglasses, pink worms, brown paw prints, a white moon and a multi-coloured rainbow. When we first bought this book Ivy picked it up, flicked through the pages and looked utterly confused. But then I slid a yellow duster underneath the picture of the sun and she laughed out loud and instantly understood. Cue much shrieking and giggling as she raced around the house trying to find objects in the right colours. Some of the cut outs are obvious, some less so, which added an extra dimension to the game because she couldn’t work out what it was until the colour was in place. We’ve also had fun placing colours in the wrong places to see what they’d look like. Ivy wasn’t a fan of blue oranges but pink elephants got a big thumbs up! Buy it now: https://amzn.to/2CgeVAb
