《Animals theme》 This is my first time making a small world play for XY (more to come!). Why do I call it sensory bowl instead of sensory bin? Because well...it is literally a smoothie bowl! Say what? Do you have overripe bananas that is too icky to be eaten yet too wasteful to throw out? Well, I cut them up into pieces, froze them and blend them (add in some blue colouring) to make this smoothie ocean. As for the ice, I used coconut shavings and some real ice (XY loves them). Top it with your arctic animals and you're done! It's not in a big bin because I only have 4 bananas so I make use of what I have Everything is edible so I will not freak out if XY happens to touch his mouth with his hands while playing. In fact, this is pretty yummy and smells good! We talked about where penguins lives, roughly touch on their temperate climate and how they move as he plays. We counted the baby penguins, shared about the texture of the contents inside the bowl and smell as well. I mainly leave him to his own devices after some guided play (just like all other activities) so that he can engage in free play, imagination and explore (very important). • P/s: if you are keen to see the consistency of the smoothie, you can hop onto my story to see. It's supposed to be more viscous but I didn't have enough time to freeze the bananas hard enough.
